Hi,
I've had a look on the website FAQs but can't find anything that I a)understand, and b) that helps me . . so I'm trying here!
I have VideoStudio 9 and lots of MOV files that I'd like to put onto dvds so I can play them on my dvd player and TV.
I had a go yesterday following the user guide to put a group of them together with a title, transition effects and I was very impressed with myself.
But . .
When I was putting this together and previewed playing the clips, they played OK. But when I previewed playing the project the clips were just still images of the first frame of the video clip. I wondered if this was something to do with it using lots of computer resources, and as it played the individual clips OK I carried on and burned my little project onto a dvd. But when I tried it on my dvd player the clips were again just still images. The title clip (I used one of the pre-set ones from the programme) and transitions worked OK.
I've just opened the project and tried to play the project and clips, and now the clips individually are not playing, they're still images :S
It says on the box and other bits of info that the programme supports MOV files. So, I happily added these video clips straight away through the Library bit. I can't find any direct references in the user guide, so I'm really stuck as to where to go to find out what I might be doing wrong, or if there's something else I need to do to the clips. Do I need to convert them from MOV files to something else first, if so what file format and how?
Please don't laugh at my hideous lack of technical knowledge and vain hope that I was doing things right by following the manual!
I would really appreciate any help from anyone who understands this stuff more than me. I'm OK at using computers but all this file format and technical stuff does baffle me . . . so if anyone is able to give me any advice, please reduce yourselves to idiot's guide level!!
If you need to know more info about my computer or what I'm trying to do, or the files themselves . . . I'll do my best to answer.
Thanks,
Niki
I'm new to VideoStudio and am confused by MOV files .. help!

Welcome to the Forums,
First we are going to need some more information. Please view This Thread, it provides a guideline to the specific information needed to help you.
You might want to read through From Camcorder to DVD tutorial.
That should get you started..
, however I will say that while VS is capable of editing MOV files, it is not recommended. It is a very highly compressed format, and VS has a difficult time with it. I would recommend converting it to DVD compliant MPEG-2, and doing this conversion before any editing. You can use a free conversion utility like SUPER.

From what you describe, i can't see anything wrong with your workflow. One thing you may want to consider is that you can use a free tool called Deamon tools
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php
to view your DVD image file.
So instead of burning straight to a DVD you just create a DVD image file and then use the deamon tool to view the dvd. If things look ok then you can always burn that image to disk. This will prevent wasting DVD disks.
Hope this helps...
