Motion Menue's

Post by juniet »

Hi, can anyone tell me if there's a way to display or use a scene within a chapter as the motion menue oppose the start of the chapter?
I.e the motion menue plays the 1st few seconds of the start of each chapter, I would like to display a scene about 50 seconds inside that chapter; is there any way of me doing that :?: :?

Thank you that is exactly what I wanted.
However I've got one more problem. When I burn unto DVD and play it back on my stand alone DVD / TV the picture appears to judder. Its ok on still or slow moving footage but everything else is juddery, as if it was filmed with a slow shutter speed camera. Is there anything I can do for a smoother picture?

That usually indicates you have changed the Field Order of the original video somewhere along the way. For instance, if you were capturing video from a mini DV video camera, the captured video would have been Lower Field First. If you captured from a mini DVD or hard disc video camera, it would have been Upper Field First.

The Basic rule of video editing is that you must maintain the same Field Order throughout a project, up to and including the burning stage. Yet if you chose default settings somewhere in the process, the likelihood is that you have chosen a default setting which has the opposite field order to your original video.

The easiest way to ensure you maintain the field order in the editing stage is to go to File > Preferences > General, and tick the box beside "Insert message when inserting first video clip in timeline". That way, when you insert your first captured clip, a message box will appear and ask you if you want the project properties to match those of the first clip. Click OK and do your editing.

(If you intend regularly to capture and process video from a particular souce, it is probably also a good idea in File > Preferences to set the default properties to reflect your source's normal Field Order.)

When you have finished editing, you should produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 of your project before moving on to the burning stage. If your captured video is already mpeg-2, then to ensure your mpeg-2 matches the original, choose Share > Create Video File > Same as First Clip (or Same as Project Properties).

If your project was in a different format, such as DV/AVI, then you choose Share > Create Video File > DVD. Then you choose Edit to adjust the properties if the default Field Order is different from your original captured video. Again, if you intend to do a lot of video editing from a single source and want them all to be much the same, you can create your own template by selecting Share > Create Video File > Custom, and setting up a specific template for yourself for future use. Select the format (mpeg-2 etc), give it a name, and in Options adjust the properties -- best to start with the right-hand third tab first before moving to the middle one.) And again make sure the Field Order is the same as the original video.

Once you have your DVD-compatible mpeg-2, save your project, and close it by opening a new one (File > New Project). Don't worry about giving it a name or anything else. The important thing is just to clear the timeline.

Then select Share > Create Disk to open the burning module. Use the Add Media button to insert your new mpeg-2. Then check in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of screen, and make sure 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked. This will ensure again that the same Field Order is maintained and no further conversion of your video will occur during the burning stage.
