Videostudio 9 -> 11 Audio Error, Urgent

Post by Chupakun »

I'm so sorry to have to demand a quick answer, but I'd prefer one as soon as possible since I won't have access to Internet after tomorrow (I'm going somewhere where *electricity* is a luxury) till the beginning of August.

My problem is based on ULEAD VIDEOSTUDIO 9 SE DVD which was bundled with the ADS VideoXpress video capture hardware.

Since that was a 30-day trial and it expired, I couldn't finish downloading my old cassettes to the computer.

So I had to upgrade to the new fangled 11. Now, the problem with 11 is that it's lacking a very, very important feature - audio capture choice. You CANNOT choose your audio source beyond Line and Mic whereas with 9 it managed to find my Skype phone and the Xpress hardware. As a result my videos have no sound.

This is a major issue for me since I really need to turn my old tapes into DVDs. Or VCDs... if possible?

Adstech is notorious for keeping their tech secrets proprietary. In other words, their cards will only work with their own software (for capture, Adstech's CapWiz program should have come with the card). They also tweak other software, like VS9SE, to be able to work with the captured video or even capture direct.

But since they won't share the technology, VS11 cannot *capture* from an Adstech card, but it should be able to process and edit it once it is captured with CapWiz.

I have no idea, though, whether CapWiz can deal with Skype.

And you have to be aware that if you are using Vista, then your Adstech device needs new drivers, and I am not sure that Adstech is making those available free. They have, for instance, only recently released a new captured device with much attendant publicity that it has new, Vista compliant drivers.

Is there any way to appeal to Ulead for help then?

I mean, I'll gladly buy VS9SEDVD if I have to, but when I click on the link, it takes to me the VS11 purchase page.

It's funny wanting the older version, but it was working quite brilliantly for me. General kudos to Ulead for a great video editing app.

Oh, and to you, many thanks as well!

Any version of VS which has the letters SE in it means that it is 'simple edition' (i.e. crippled in some way), and is ALWAYS distributed free, usually with hardware as yours was.

The only way you could buy VS9 these days is either in some software store which happens to have a few versions left at reduced price, or else on something like e-Bay. But again, be aware that some unscrupulous posters there are actually trying to sell SE versions. You should only pay for a *full* version.

You might also want to download the trial version of VS11 to see if it works for you.

Thanks for the suggestions!

The bundled version of SE came with the Xpress which costs ¢G40 ($80). Sadly, that's a ridiculous amount to pay *again* hehe.

I'll look into some stores although I don't think they stock legacy software usually, do they?

I'm already using the trial version of VS11, that's why I know it's lacking the right option :(.

Your source material for this particular project doesn't happen to involve Dolby audio, does it? If so, then I am pretty sure that the trial version of VS11 will not come with the Dolby codec included. This is because Dolby demands a licence fee for each use of its codecs, and no software company is going to pay them that if they are giving a particular software package like VS away free either bundled with hardware or as a trial version.
