why does dvdf6 crash
Gosh, passerbyeus, you've got to tell us more than that if you want us to have any hope of helping you: PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE POSTING!!!
Probably because there's something wrong with your AVI file... (The Ulead programs do not seem to be very tolerant.)
It's not ususual to have a file that plays OK but causes trouble when you try to edit or convert it. Sometimes a corrupt file won't even load into Movie Factory, or (as in your case) crash when you try to load it.
This is most common with more-compressed formats. AVI/DV at 13GB per hour almost never causes trouble. AVI/DivX at about 1GB per hour (and other highly compressed formats) causes lots of trouble.
If you are working with highly-compressed files, you may need to search for a program that is especially made for that format. Or, you may need to find a 3rd-party program to to convert/re-code your file before bringing it into Movie Factory.
