ulead video studio 10 crash on open or soon after

Post by Bill Owen »

Hi
VS10 is crashing as soon as I open, or if it does open it crashes every time I go to my images collection and try to scroll down. I am getting a cannot access memory error. I have tried changing the page file size as recommended in the knowledge base, I have done a simple uninstall and a full uninstall.

I have not installed any new programs although I have done updates (the latest version of Windows Genuine Advantage). My system has been running VS10 with few problems for several months now and I am a loss as to how to make this thing work. I am working on a project for someone now, and have a deadline.

Any ideas would be a huge help, I am getting desperate, I am trying a system restore to a few days ago, but confidence is low.

Have you Googled for a (free) RAM test to make sure your RAM is OK? Consistently getting a memory access error usually indicates there might be something wrong with hardware. The Microsoft site has a free memtest (I think it is actually called Memtest). Let any test program run several cycles as errors may only appear after a couple of passes.

I had this problem with a brand new computer where I started getting memory access messages after only a couple of weeks. Did a memtest and found one of the sticks of RAM had an error and had to be replaced (luckily by the computer company...)

No Luck

Hi Ken

Thanks for this, but all my other apps are running fine, I would think that bac sectors would have global impact. Nonetheless, your suggestion was worth a shot. I ran the memtest app to over 2005 with zero errors so it must be something else.

I checked some of the other posts on crashes and someone mentioned realplayer, till I read that I had forgotten that I had done an update. I am uninstalling now, will post the results!

Thanks again,

Bill

Uninstalled Real Player, No Effect

Post by Bill Owen »

I uninstalled RealPlayer, and although VS 10 seemed to stay up for a little while longer than usual, it still crashed when I tried to scroll through the image thumbnails.

I also installed the smartsound upgrade, again with no effect.

If anyone out there has any other ideas I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Corel sent me a service pack

Post by Bill Owen »

Corel sent me a service pack (sp1), which I installed but it did nothing. I just purchased a copy of Adobe Premier Elements, which is in some ways inferiour, but it is better in some other areas.

At this point I may have to give up on Ulead as I am unable to get it running. I have been using computers since 1983 and have never seen an app which could not be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling.

Corel has told me that I can ask another question in one week! I find this bizarre, I make my living this way and waiting one week between questions is just unacceptable.

I am still open to suggestions if anyone has any new ideas.

The only other option that I can think of is starting completely over from scratch. Reformat your system, and then once you get your OS up and running, the first application installed would be VS. Check it to see if it works. If it does, then proceed to install another one. Check VS again. Continue this until either you get all apps reinstalled and VS functions properly, or you find the offending application. You may want to use System Restore points before installing each application. That way you can roll it back if/when you find the offending program.

Also I will add that if you test VS on a clean system, and you get the same error, it must be hardware related.
