I've been using a Canopus 300 for VHS to PC capture for a long time and it's as good now as it was when it first came out of the box.

As others have mentioned, it's RCA into the ADVC and firewire out into the PC.

I actually use the software to control the Canopus.

'Confetti artifacts' ? Not sure what you mean unless it's reporting a very weak signal from the VCR. Maybe a worn tape. But try the software. It could cure the problem.

I cannot find the software and the tape was just made two weeks ago and only shown 5-6 times. I get the same problem with a new VHS commercially produced tape.

I have replaced all my cables to the best I could get, gold over $35 each for RCA and Firewire.

You can get the software from

http://www.canopus.com/support/download ... fileid=294

(you will need to register with Canopus first)
