Editing and getting clips
I am switching to StudioVideo8. I have used Windows Movie Maker and Pinnacle Studio 8. In both of those programs, you get a series of clips, and you can edit from there. However, when I import one of these .avi files into StudioVideo8, I do not get the clips, but only 1 clip?
Hi shanksd --
Do I understand this to be a complaint?
Second question: Does the one clip contain everything that was in the original three clips?
You can separate any video into any number of clips by working in the Timeline, positioning the blue-arrow cursor and "cutting" with the scissors.
Have you used VS8 for long? If you're not comfortable with it yet, you might benefit from reading some of the extremely practical guidelines found in Post Number One, always at the head of this forum. It's recommended.
Welcome aboard! There's a Video Studio version 9 arriving soon, which many of us are eagerly awaiting.

I think I am correct here..
Windows Movie Maker, Sonic MyDVD and (probably) Pinnacle will capture video footage happily. If you ask them to Split by Scene they will do that; what you end up with is one large video file on your hard drive; when viewing it with the capturing software you can see how it is broken up.
Video Studio acts slightly differently. If you ask it to Split by Scene, you get many smaller, physically separate files on the hard drive. The splitting is real, not virtual.
If you import a file captured by one of these programs into VS, you will import the whole file - you just won't see the internal markers.

Re: Editing and getting clips
If you are talking about how the video is displayed in the timeline, go to File -> Preferences -> General and change the Clip Display Mode to Thumbnail only.shanksd@vanguardcar.com wrote:I am switching to StudioVideo8. Keith, no this is not a complaint. I am just getting started and was looking for the feature. I have gone thru the 8 tutorials that you can download, and they are quite good.
I did find what I was looking for, SPLIT BY SCENE, which is on the left side, when you drag the video to the story board. From there if you click on SCAN at the bottom, it will go thru and split the clips, so you can then use TRANSITIONS, which is what I was trying to get to.
By the way, have you heard when the #9 is due out. I just bought VideoStudio8 and then the MPEG4 plug-in.
Thanks.
