External preview?
Anyone tell me the easiest way to externally view my project, on, say a laptop or tv? I'm not sure what cables etc. I know I can send it to tape and then view it on tv but.... help appreciated.

I have a "true" multiple head video card in my PC, the Matrox Parhelia, with that I have the output of my preview window go to a small TV right next to my monitor.
There are lots of so called "dual head" video cards but many don't have the video overlay on the second port. You have to do your home work.

Another method some folks use is to send DV .avi to a dv device that will "pass through" the signal to TV Monitor (helps if you are working with DV .avi's
)
For instance, I can attach my Sony TRV120 digital-8 camcorder to my computer via firewire. I can then send a dv .avi to the camcorder, and from the camcorder to TV using RCA (or S-VIDEO) out. I'm not really recording to the camcorder -- just using it as a "pass through" device.

George

What George also means, is, in addition to connecting your camcorder via fire wire to the pc, and attaching either RCA cables or s-video from the camcorder to a TV, etc.. next to the transport controls of the preview window is a button for the "preview options". Just select "play back options" and select "play back in" "dv camcorder"..
Or you can use a purpose-built analogue>DV>analogue converter. I use one of the Canopus ADVC series (not all are 2-way, though). This is excellent, as I can have the timeline on monitor 1, 2nd Preview on monitor 2 and 3rd Preview on the TV monitor at the same time.

Read MrAmigo's post. This isn't about printing to tape- most of the preview/playback dialog boxes have a "playback options" option, where you can include "DV Camera/device" (can't recall the exact name offhand, not in front of PC). This includes the timeline playback (even scrubbing), titling/effects preview window, etc.aiki88 wrote:So, besides printing to tape to view it on a TV using the Camcorder, which I do often, is there anyway to display the timeline on the tv during Instant Play? Or, is printing to tape, which takes some time to send, then only way? Thanks
I use a Canopus ADVC also, it works great for this, as well as locked-audio analog video capture via DV. Also works to display my VCR tuner output on my NTSC monitor which doesn't have a tuner
