Video Studio11 faulty transitions in Vista

Post by peterdb »

When I use the transitions in VS11 in Windows Vista some of them do not work, I checked for similar problems noted in this forum and found some answers such as make sure .NET is installed (comes already in Vista) and also install C++ which I did,
However there are quite a few transitions that still do not work these are usually the ones with "flying flips, Flying cube" ect.
This was really annoying as I created a large slide show with random transitions and had to go through it all a couple of times to find the ones that did not work as I only discovered them when the "rendering" stopped giving me an error "cant load library".
I note that this problem has been on this forum previously why have Ulead (Corel) not fixed it ? [/b]

I believe this is a Vista issue, not VideoStudio. Even though those certain transitions will not work in Vista they are still included in VS because they do work in XP and other operating systems.

The following is from the v10 Vista Update Pack:
Some 3D transition effects that won¡¦t be supported on Vista are removed from current release (i.e. v10 Update), including: Flying Board, Flying Cube, Flying Flip, Flying Fold, and Folding Box. Some templates under "Album", "Flash Light" and "Mask" transition effect are also not supported.

I think the point BlackLab was trying to make is that some things in VS11 (not to mention 10) will not work in Vista because Vista does not support them. But people who use VS11 in XP will be able to use those effects since XP does. I guess Ulead was in a cleft stick -- did it leave out those effects for ALL users, or include them and have only some users not able to use them?

We had a similar situation the other day when someone who uses VS11 on Vista could not get some of the sample videos which came with the program, to play. The point was that they were made with a codec which simply is not supported by Vista. But VS11 users using XP have no trouble with them.

Yes Ken I understand what you say, However the problem would have been much better fixed by deleting these effects from the "vista" compatible" versions or perhaps all versions and offering them as an "update".
The main reason for this would be that you could not inadvertantly use them and it would also enable people with Vista to use the "Inset random Transitions" option.
because using "Inset random Transitions" as I did creates an awfull problem of trying to find the faulty (non compatible" transitions.)aftewards
I hope Ulead (Corel) fixes this

Hmmm. I see your point. I guess it has not affected me so far (I have VS11+ on a Vista Home Premium machine) because I tend only to use one or two fairly standard transitions (cross fades mostly). And when I want a fancy one, I use either Canopus or Adorage FX.

That is a good point, Pete. Maybe you should offer that suggestion to Ulead for future versions, as it is obvious they did not think of that scenario.
