problem with cutting divx

if i create a divx file with the program dr.divx and want to cut the video afterwards using ulead video studio 7, by saving only a part of the video i got a video with the first 6 seconds showing only a green screen while the sound already is on. why? and how can i change this?

More detail needed:

What format are you working with?
What were the project properties?
How did you "cut"?
Etc.

Sounds like the file that gets created contains only P frames initially, which are used to encode incremental changes following an I (independent/key) frame.

Without the initial I frame, the P frames are useless, and the decoder doesn't have anything to display. I would create a new file with Smartrender turned off -- while that is quite a bit slower, it should leave you with a valid video stream.

And of course, make sure you have applied the latest patches.
