How to REinstall Ulead VideoStudio 9 Have serial number

Post by Sheree-Lynn »

Okay I purchaced Ulead Video Studio 9 on 2005/12/6 a few days ago I went to go on it to work on a video and it wouldn't even open up for me ... and Error came up telling me that Ulead needed to shut down etc.
I did send an error report. I kept trying the next few days to try and open it up but it still won't. So I thought maybe if I unistall it and try another version. So I did that and downloaded a free trial of Ulead 11 but when I try to open up Ulead 11 it still gives me the same error! At this point I don't want to purchace another Ulead product. And since Ulead 9 and 11 are giving me the same error... I unistalled the Free trial version of Ulead 11 and I just want to Reinstall Ulead 9. I have the serial number for it but how do I go about doing this.
Do I just download the trial version again and then I just have to type in the serial number and then voila everything is back to normal. If any of you can give me step by step instructions I would appreciate it. It's not going to solve why the error keeps coming up. But at least the already bought product will be back on my computer.
Thanks for any help :D

Welcome to the forums,

Do you not have your original VS9 install files(ESD) or CDs if you purchased the boxed version ? You should have created back-up CDs when you purchased it. To reinstall just place the CD in the tray, and install, enter your serial number where required.

Try doing a complete un-install/re-install. Ulead programs leave a lot of files behind. So just doing a simple add/remove programs from the control panel and then re-installing may not correct some issues. Instructions can be found here : Re-installation of Ulead Products

Please complete your System Information in your profile. Clicking on this button -->Image will take you to a short tutorial, explaining how to find and complete that information. This way it will always be available, and will save you from retyping it in the future.

If you're try to install/run VS9 on a Vista machine, it will not work.

Since VS9 has worked for you before, what have you changed recently? When you are editing video, do you have all unnecessary services and applications shut down?

For VS11 you might need to update DirectX, which can be done by going to MicroSoft's website, and looking for the February 2007 update.

Hi Sheree-Lynn

There was a problem relating to VS 9 and the Windows Installer

Afaik it was related to Win 2k Operating System.??????????????

Fill in your profile details relating to your OS.

Have a look at this link:-

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 4272#44272

I do not think this is related to newer versions???????????????

My head is spinning  ... okay when I uninstalled Ulead 9 I did that by going to my add/remove programs.....

Now I was going to try the steps on reinstallation but was lost after clicking on folder options  I couldn't find anywhere else to continue... but it was mentioned that removing something from the add/remove programs doesn't necessarilly remove it entirely.

So I went to Program Files and found the folder "Ulead Sytems" clicked on that and found "Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" clicked on that and found a folder that was called "Smart Download" and then a file below that called "AllContents.NCS". I clicked on the smart download file and their were two files " uvs9_contentpack_part1.exe" and "uvs9_contentpack_part2.exe"

So does that mean anything those files ... do I click on them and then I can reinstall Ulead 9 that way or do those files mean nothing.

I got Ulead 9 buy downloading a trial version online and then I purchaced it after the trial was finished. So I have no cd to put in or anything.

The two files you found are the extra content packs and not the installation of the program itself. Before doing anything else back those two files up onto a CD/DVD.

Next - try system restore to the time/date before you uninstalled VideoStudio 9. You might be lucky and get that back. If so then we can start working out what the initial problem is/was.

Failing that --- what happend to your original downloaded installation files.
Please don't say you deleted them because VideoStudio 9 has now been surpased by VS10 and even more recently VS11 and so you will be unable to download a copy of (the trial version of) VS9 from the Ulead server.

Okay I put those two files on a cd.... the system restore is not going to work since I have had it shut off for the longest time. I will have to thank my brother for that great idea  *SIGH*

Now I checked a Micellanious folder I have and in it is a file called "UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1.exe"

And in my Documents is a folder called Ulead VideoStudio ... there are two files in it one labled 9.0 and the other 11.0. 11.0 folder is empty. 9.0 folder had another folder inside Disc Image File and it is empty also in the 9.0 folder is about 14 uvs bmp images.

And also in my documents folder I scrolled down and found this file UVS9_tbyb_e_cnet.exe

Are any of those files going to help me?

Hi

I have the download version of Video Studio 9

The file is called: uvs9_full_e_na_rtm.exe

I assume that all downloads for VS have a simular name.

try a search of your pc.

When you download files, your pc usually defaults to C:\My Downloads, Unless you change that location, then your VS 9 should be there.

The UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1.exe file is only a patch and will not help at this stage.

Okay I did a search on my computer for the file that Trevor mentioned he said was file to download Ulead 9 but I couldn't find the exact file

I did a Google search for one of my files I found (uvs9_tbyb_e_cnet.exe)

And found a FileFront site that has Ulead 9 available for download and the file name matches the one I have up above... so do I assume that I have the download file and just open it up again and just have to go through the steps to install again?

That sounds like the one - try running that.
Because it is a Try before you buy it will probably tell you off for exceeding the 30 day trial limitation, but I understand you purchased an activation key for it.

Once installed you then need to install those other files you found
"UVS9Full_Patch1_5in1.exe"
"uvs9_contentpack_part1.exe" and
"uvs9_contentpack_part2.exe"

Once you have confirmed that everything is working again I suggest you back this lot up straight away onto a CD - include on the CD a notepad file containing your serial/activation numbers.

Okay I installed Ulead 9 back onto my computer ... I went through the wizard and it said that at the end that to purchace it I would have to run program/select tools and smart download ... I clicked finished and it said that it was installed on my computer ... the Ulead 9 icon was on my desktop ... I double clicked on it and I am now back to what was my origional problem. It won't even open up for me. It goes as far as showing the open logo with the girl and then an error thing comes up telling that there is a problem and it needs to shut down. I did send an error report again. When I clicked for more info it said that the following file would be in the error report
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\TEMP\fefd_appcompat.txt

I did put the Ulead on a a cd... but when I tried to install Uvs9Full Patch a message came up telling me that it couldn't find Ulead 9 installed on my computer :? but I just intalled it and it even told me it was on my computer. What now...

That error message is due to the fact that your currently installed version is a trial (TBYB) version. Patches do not work with trial versions. You will have to activate it first with your activation key. As to the proper process of that, sorry, I can't help you there. I have never activated a trial version and usually advise against it. In your case it is probably too late to do anything about it.

What is the exact message you get when the program doesn't start? Can you post a screen shot of it?

It could be a Windows message rather than a VS one and may have to do with DEP, data execution prevention.

Here is a screen shot

And this is the same error that came up before I even unistalled Ulead in the first place. I have had Ulead for 2 years and this is the first time an error like this has happened.

Hi

The image you posted looks like a splash screen for VS 9 patched.
I see this screen when i boot VS 9.
The un-patched VS 9 has a Red background not White/Grey. ( at least thats what i see)

As you cannot patch the trial versions, i assume you have the Full version.
If you try to run the patch on a trial version, you will get an error, the installation will be aborted.

Have a look at this link:-

Afaik the problem here seemed to be associated with Windows 2000 and Windows Installer

It may not be your problem, but all the signs point me in this direction.

Its worth a look

The error box doesn't tell us anything and may relate to a number of reasons.

Firstly Please click here --> Image so that we can then view your system specifications.

Then check the Windows Event Log for error messages:

START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code appertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.
