I recently upgraded from VS 9 SE to 11 thinking the features would all be the same till i noticed that the ability to capture straight to WMV is gone.
Is this really true or am i missing something? Will be rather annoyed if i upgraded for nothing.
If not is there a plugin that allows it in VS 11?
VS 11 and WMV Capture?

That's correct, WMV Capture is not supported. This is taken from Ulead's Upgrade web page for the VS10 Vista Patch:
VS11 Input Format Support found on Ulead's Website:* Windows Vista and the Windows logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries
* This Update Pack is for Ulead® VideoStudio® 10/10 Plus (BOX, ESD, UPG, and activated TBYB) version.
* This Update Pack cannot be uninstalled.
* Since Video for Windows (VFW) is not supported in Vista, VFW codecs such as Indeo, Cinepak are not supported in Vista. The video content files provided by VideoStudio will now be encoded using .WMV instead of Indeo codecs.
* Some 3D transition effects that won¡¦t be supported on Vista are removed from current release, including: Flying Board, Flying Cube, Flying Flip, Flying Fold, and Folding Box. Some templates under "Album", "Flash Light" and "Mask" transition effect are also not supported.
* WDM devices are not supported by Vista. Thus, not supported by VideoStudio.
* WMV and MPEG 4 format CAPTURE is not supported.
* MOV and MPEG 4 formats are not supported in this version.
* WinDVD 7, PocketDV show, and Cool3D are not supported.

Why would you want to capture in such a highly compressed format, that is going to be difficult to edit?
Even if your end product is to be WMV, it is far better to capture to a less compressed format, do your editing, then render your WMV files. VS11 can still do this. It just does not support WMV Capture. You can thank M$ for that. Corel had to remove that to comply with Vista.

This depends on your source and what you intend to do with them. Where and How are you getting the video clips? Is your end result to be viewed on a PC/Internet, or DVDs to be viewed on TV? If you're capturing from a camcorder like MiniDV or Digital 8, then if possible use DV, which is transferred via Firewire (IEEE-1394) to your PC. Analog captures however generally are captured to MPEG. When possible use MPEG-2 DVD Compliant format if your end product is to be creating DVDs.raven449 wrote: What format/bit rate would you suggest i use before converting them to WMV?
A Recommended Workflow has been developed to help guide you through the mine-field of video editing, as it pertains to Ulead's VideoStudio Programs. They can be viewed here:
