My DV workflow uses "Split By Scene" so I can handle each as individual files (can then delete the poor segment files etc). I know I can use a third party tool (HDVSplit) but I've got problems with how these files are then imported into VS11.....what I'd really like is for VS11 to:
1) Allow "Split By Sceen" during import (not the second pass option that takes almost as long and only gives you a bunch of thumnails with Mark In / Mark Out)
2) Have each file named with the Date/Time (like HDVSlit)

I don't have HD but throwing in a suggestion and would be interested in hearing the result for future reference if this works or not.
Contrary to popular belief MPG files can hold scene change information - in fact you can mark chapter points in VideoStudio Editor, render the video and then these can be detected in the Share-Create Disc stage.
From what I can gather, the VideoStudio import routines will only detect scene change information from DV but not from other sources.
Once you have imported the video into VideoStudio, try the Split by Scene function to see if that detects the various scenes.

Most probably it will not work as the drop down box states
DV Recording Time Scan - so it probably works the same as Split By scene
during capture.

Regarding adding the time/date to the file. VideoStudio does not allow you to alter the capture names. There is a handy FREE utility that enables you to rename files en masse:
The Rename
THE Rename is a program designed to help you to rename files and folders en masse with a number of possibilities and options.
This is a freeware program. You can use it in any situation (professional and personal use)

Thanks - I did try this the other day (before using HDVSplit) and it does work but:
1) It requires you to first capture THEN rescan which is also at real time speed so it doubles your processing time
2) It created multiple scenes in your library to the one file with different mark in / mark out points (not multiple files)
The additional beauty of HDVSplit is it reads the time/date stamp during capture to not only split the files but it also uses this info to name each file accordingly....I don't have to keep a manual list of when I shot what, it is all part of the file name! Now if I can only get VS11+ to play nice with this files.....but that is another thread http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=97372!)
Thanks
