HDVSplit file are treated as Frame Based not Top Field First

Post by jmone »

Hi,
After reading on this forum I found that:
1) VS11 will not do file splitting during HDV Capture
2) HDVSplit will do HDV File Split during capture (and even names the files by the recorded date with is just fantastic).

The problem seems to be that when you import the M2T files into VS11 for editing they are treated as 25FPS - Frame Based not Top Field First. The problems seems to be during "Create Video Files --> HDV 1080i (For PC)":
1) Accept the MPEG Optimisers Settings of 25FPS Frame Based, MPEG (Transport-Stream) and VS11 crashes at the point of the first change in clip (no transistion). Also I end up with a TS file not a PS file which I would prefer
2) Ignore the MPEG Optimisers Settings but the VS11 has to transcode for the 1080/50i PS (I'd like NOT to transcode)

Thanks
Nathan

They have to address this issue. Use third party software to convert the files from TS to PS, it's a lossless binary conversion.
Or, capture using VS11+ which will end up in the PS format.
VS11+ will work using PS ProgramStream files. At least my version works pretty nice.

Thanks etech....I'd prefer to keep my workflow all in VS11 but find the missing "Split by Scene" during HDV capture annoying (hence trying HDVSplit).

Do you know of a third party TS to PS batch converter?

Thanks

A few programs can do this, it's a lossless binary conversion.
VS10+ had the feature built into it.

I hear VirtualDub or VideoRedo can also do a TS to PS. There's some others.

I have VS10+ & MF5+ (with patches) which convert the files from TS to PS before they are inserted into the program.

A free program would be Avidemux2 <--Click on this Link

Avidemux2 Instuctions for converting Mpeg TS Stream to PS Stream:
I think that Avidemux2 is cross compiled from linux to run on windows..
Insert the .m2t file, anwser = Yes to index. (View=Zoom 1:4 | resize ) if necessary
Video = Copy
Audio = Copy
Format = MPEG PS A+V
Save the video giving an extension of .mpg

You can open multiple instances of Avidemux2 which may help converting the files alittle faster.

FYI - I've also found that HDTVtoMPEG2 seems to work, is graphical based and is freeware (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~balazer/HDTVtoMPEG2/). Unfortunatly it looks like you can not batch convert.....

Thanks

Hi,
This is a quote from the authors page. Not sure if you read this or not. The author doesn't seem to put to much faith in the TS to PS conversion.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre ... did=395744
What's it for?
Despite its name, HDTVtoMPEG2 main purpose is to edit commercials out of HDTV transport streams and write out another transport stream. It still has the capbability to convert to program streams (mpeg2) but this area has received little to no work since v1.10b. If you need this capability you should use another tool like VideoRedo.
Just wanted to point this out if you have trouble with the PS files. Corrupted mpeg's are hard to repair.
