Trouble Capturing Video From Camcorder

Post by compaqnigg »

I'm using the Pinnacle Dazzle hardware device to hook to my camcorder which uses Video 8 Cassettes. Now the Ulead Videostudio 11 recognizes the dazzle device, but when I go to capture video an error message pops up and says... "Unable to capture the file because it is copyright protected".

Mind you, this "copyright protected file" is my home video! :?

I've also tried some of my other video 8 tapes and the same thing happens. What can I do?

I think you will find that the copyright is on Pinnacle's device! Pinnacle is one of several companies that locks their brand name capture devices to their own proprietary software i.e. they won't share that specific technology so that other software manufacturers like Ulead can ensure their software will also work on the device.

In other words, you have to use the Pinnacle software which came with the device to capture (probably some version of Pinnacle Studio), and then import the video into VS11 for editing.

I used Ulead VideoStudio 9 before and it worked. I really do hate Pinnacle :D. I used to use Pinnacle's software until it drove me insane. That's when I found the more superior company :)

Why not use VideoStudio 9 to capture and VideoStudio 11 to Edit?

But can VS9 capture from the Pinnacle device? That is not totally clear...

Sorry -- but it may be the lawyer in me, but I could read that sentence as meaning what it says on its face: that he has used VS9 and it worked. Period. Nothing more.

Or it could be read that he used VS9 before with the device and it worked...

I grant you he may have meant the latter, but I have difficulty believing that VS would be able to capture from a Pinnacle device... Unlike Adstech, Pinnacle has its own editing suite so is unlikely to have tweaked VS9 to work with their device...

To make it clear, I used the Pinnacle device on Ulead videostudio 9 and it was able to capture video. The quality was so much better too. The problem with Pinnacle is that they don't let you customize your capture like Ulead. They force you to use their crappy encoders.
