Importing files from JVC Everio GZ HD7 HD Camera

Post by Nashrj »

I have just purchased a JVC Everio GZ HD7 HD Camera and VS 11 Plus.

I have recorded my initial files in full HD and when trying to import them into VS to edit, the files all have a TOD extension file that doesn't seem to be recognised by VS.

Can anyone suggest a workaround that will maintain the HD quality and not see dropped frames.

Many Thanks.

If VS can't see the files then how do you know you are dropping frames?
Are you dropping frames or is you computer having a problem playing back the HD video files.
Did your camcorder come with any software that can convert/capture/extract the HD vidoes from the cam and convert them to standard hd-mpeg2 format?
VS will import these hd-mpeg2 video files.

With the standard definition Everios, which use the .MOD extension, the solution was simply to change .mod to .mpg and import the video that way. Apparently it worked.

I am wondering if, with the HD version, there might not be some equally simple solution, such as renaming .tod extensions to .m2t?

Apologies for not being sufficiently specific.

The camera came with Cyberlink software (PowerCinema NE for Everio) This allows me to transfer the files from the camera to my PC (where they are saved as TOD files).

The camera also came with editing software (PowerDirector 5 NE Express) which will recognise the saved TOD files and then convert them when importing them (into mpg files).

I have tried renaming the saved TOD files using a mpg extension in the hope that this would work but this is when I encounter the dropped frames. Maybe (through my lack of knowledge and experience) I am not completing this step correctly. Any step by step guidance would be appreciated.

I recently used a Sony HD (Hard Disk) Camera for a work project. I purchased VS to edit the project and it was significantly better than the Cyberlink PowerDirector 5 NE Express version that came with my camera. The attributes of VS are great - the main setback is that it can't recognise the TOD files directly as the Cyberlink product can.

Any suggestions?

I think the problem is you bought version 11.0.

It's 11.5 that supports TOD files.

I have the JVC GZ-HD7U and d/l'd the trial version to make sure it really worked with TODs before buying. The trial is 11.0, not 11.5.

And I get the same error you do.

I wonder how soon the will offer a trial of 11.5? I'm not about to plunk down $100 for software unless I KNOW it does what I need...

The good news is they say you can upgrade your 11.0 Plus to 11.5 Plus for free!
