VOB Conversion

Post by Dozno9 »

Hi,

After owning MovieFactory 5+ for 1 month and having zero DVD's to show for it I have now concluded that MF5 cannot read my VOB files correctly and/or the camcorder (Sony DVD404E) is corrupting the files.

The jog bar, when manually locating a chapter I want to keep, freezes and goes back to the beginning.

I have tried a demo of Xilisoft converter and converting the VOB to AVI works of in MF5. Is this the best converter to get? I know coverting the files will reduce the quality but I have no other choice.

Thanks

How are you bringing the VOB files into your project?

1) are you renaming .vob to .mpg
2) are you just dragging .vob files to the timeline
3) are you using the Import from DVD Function
4) other

If you are using the import DVD function then it is possible that you might be suffering from a small gliche affecting some users.

I did a search and had 2 files with that name, but both were 413kb. So I downloaded the new one and put in in the MPEG folder and changed the extensions to both but it still isn't working. The jog bar still freezes and resets to the beginning of the video.

Thank you.

If I rename the file it will not read it and I cannot drag the VOB's in as it says they are not accessible, my only choice is to use the import from dvd function.

Thank you

I guess the "best" one is the one that works with your DVDs... (What's best for me may not be what's best for you.) Watch out for programs that will ony make a "VCD quality" MPEG.

In general, the Movie Factory (or Video Studio) Import feature is the best, because it does not re-code the MPEG, and the video quality is not degraded. (Most "DVD to MPEG" programs that I've tried will re-code the MPEG.)

In your case, the MPEG may need to be re-coded in order to "repair" it or to make it acceptable to Movie Factory.

Some other programs you can experiment with:

SUPER is a FREE universal conversion program. It will re-code the MPEG, but it has helped me a couple of times.

VOB 2 MPG is also FREE! It won't re-code the MPEG. (I've tried it twice. Once it worked and it was fast. The 2nd time it totally failed.)

Both VideoReDo and Womble include tools that can sometimes repair MPEGs without recoding. They are not free, but they offer free trials.
