File Size gets bigger as I cut out parts of clips?
Howdy,
I have a bunch of short clips that I got off some old VHS-C tapes. I'm putting them together to make a DVD and have a question.
I'm using version 3...
When I take each clip and set the start and end position to edit out the static and such at the beginning and end, the duration shown for the movie goes down (as it should) but the file size shown keeps going up.
Why does the file size get bigger isntead of smaller? Do I have to take the clips and edit them in some other program and then pull them in to MovieFactory so I don't have to do any chopping within the program? Would that keep the size down? Just not sure what's going on.

I'm referring to the bottom left corner on the colored bar that shows how full the disc is.MikeGunter wrote:Hi,
Are you referring to the *project's* size or the clip size?
Mike
It shows a GB size and a Hr/MinSec duration.
The Hr/Min/Sec goes down when I cut things out but the GB file size keeps going higher and higher.

I took a look at http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products ... rusb2.html and it appears that your CODEC is either MPEG 1 or MPEG 2, likely 1.kelemvor wrote:I played the tape on my VCR into my WinTV-PVY USB2 device and recorded it with the WinTV2000 program.
Then I bought it into MovieFactory and use the Start/End setting buttons to cut out the parts I didn't want.
That's about all I can tell you.
That means that the file will upsample to MPEG2 and use more space.
If it is MPEG2, you can click the *gear* then make sure *Don't convert complaint MPEG files" is checked.
If you are targeting NTSC, I'd also check "Treat MPEG audio as non-DVD Complaint."

Re: File Size gets bigger as I cut out parts of clips?
It has been my experience that when the clips are edited or JOINED in a project, that the Disk size in the bar at the bottom is totally inaccurate. In my case, when I join clips the project size increases by a factor of 3 but if I continue and output the project, it is the expected size.kelemvor wrote:Howdy,

I do see the update on the downloads page called:
DVD MovieFactory 3.0 DL Support Pack (Release Date: 2004/11/03)
One of the notes says:
Fixed abnormal estimation of the project size when the video clip was trimmed or cut.
However I have DMF 3 SE and the notes says:
The update pack applies to Retail and ESD versions (Disc Creator and Standard) only.
When I tried to install it I got an error that said it coudln't find DMF 3 on my system. No idea why. It's obviously an error in my version and I'd like to have it fixed.... Kidn of hard to figure out how much space I'm using if the display is bogus...

DL Update Pack cannot be installed to SE version.
SE means Simple Edition and is a version that come with your hardware device. It will have limited features and less free templates/contents.
Disc Creator and Standard versions are standalone versions you bought directly from Ulead or from retail store, which are different with SE version.
Hope this helps.

Well that helps. Was assuming SE was Standard Edition.htchien wrote:DL Update Pack cannot be installed to SE version.

Sucks that the SE has the same bug as the other versions but they decided to just not fix it for this edition.
