Subtitle flicker

Post by lazael »

My mpeg movie of a slide show has zero flicker. But the subtitles flicker on the TV screen.
Has anyone found a way of reducing the text flicker ?
DWS2 does not seem to have any project setting that might cure it.

Never seen the problem. How are you doing it?

My MSP8 created PAL video is Framebased - this gives very clear "slide-show pictures" on my TV screen.
The English text was done in Notepad. In DWS2, the subtitles are in Arial (Arabic) font, size 24, colour yellow, and uses a black Background transparency of 66%.
The DVD project uses a Variable data rate of 4500.

The resultant text flicker seems to be caused by the TV's interleave action ( upper/lower field scans ). There is no problem when viewed on a computer screen.

Have you set your WS-2 settings to framebased, the same as your MSP one? You may have to go into Advanced MPEG settings to do this, if I remember correctly. If you don't have this feature, do a search here for Advance and you will find how to find the ini file that must be modified.

Thanks.
Well I got the advanced settings to show again after some effort. But default PAL DVD setting is greyed-out / not changeable. The other video settings are too intimidating for me  .
Guess I'll have to live with the text flicker as I'm very happy with the picture clarity.

Try experimenting with different fonts, font sizes and color schemes.
