mpeg settings

Post by zoobie »

I can rename my VOB to mpeg for MSP which needs to keep compliant but can't seem to get the project settings correct. I've tried darn near everything but the green and red lines still don't show up. Where did I go wrong? Thanks

Well first, let's clear up a little myth... contrary to popular belief .vob and .mpg are not interchangeable. Yes in some cases it works, but if a vob was actually a mpg then there would be no reason for the vob extension.

Changing the extension works SOMETIMES depending on the audio that is used.... and that's because a vob is a mpg WITH the sound muxed.

Your best bet is to back up your steps a bit and do a PROPER vob to mpg conversion... this way you can be sure that this is not part of the problem.......vob2mpeg is pretty good

(screen shots taken from VideoStudio - I am currently away from my editing machine)

Better still is to import the DVD files correctly in the first place by using the Import from DVD plug in built into MediaStudio.

The procedure changed from MediaStudio 7 to MediaStudio 8.
Which version are you using?

If 7 - I described the procedure only last night to another forum member here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 029#121029
You will get a screen looking a bit like this
Image

The procedure is similar in MediaStudio 8 but you will get a screen similar to this
Image
With this one you can either import individual Chapters by deselecting the
"Title" box but selecting each "Chapter" box - this results in separate thumbnails for each chapter, OR you can import each individual Chpater by selecting the Chapter box, this results in a single thumbnail for that entire chapter.

Neither method is working.

This is the mpg converted with VOB2MPG

Code: Select all

Properties

NTSC DVD, Lower Field First,7000 kbps
Comp ratio: 1%
Audio: LPCM 48000hz 16bit stereo

Code: Select all

Project settings

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
Overlay track(s):3
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48 KHz, Stereo

And with the import to VideoCapture method using MSP7, no box opens because it can't find any MPGs in the VIDEO_TS folder (step 5 & 6).

Of course it hasn't found any MPG files - it isn't looking for any!
Navigate to the Video_TS folder and then import.
MediaStudio will now read your VOB files.

by clicking CAPTURE>VIDEO>PROPERTIES?
It says Select a VIDEO_TS folder to import, sees it, then says it's unable to create file which may be write protected when I click OK.
It simply won't do it.

OK back to square one.
We may be overlooking the obvious here......

Your source DVD wouldn't just happen to be something purchased from a shop would it? You cannot copy the latest Hollywood Blockbuster - they are copy protected.

Nope...They're all my shoots authored with MF4 I believe which I no longer have. I've been doing this for a while and not exactly a newbie. That's why, after several trials, I've had to resort to asking what's going on with this software. Well, I'll have to move on...Thanks anyway.

OK next thing then. Let us again step back and look at the problem again.

You have attempted to import the DVD with MediaStudio and failed.
You have attempted to import the DVD with VOB to DVD and failed.

Conclusion:
Faulty DVD. OK perhaps it plays correctly in your DVD player - but they are designed to withstand minor errors (caused mainly by scratches and fingermarks).

Well, I'm thinking it's something else because all my video aps like TMPGEnc are freezing & crashing. I've pulled an DV-AVI into MSP and it crashes when converting to mpg. I first noticed this problem when I updated AntiVir and ever since, nothings worked properly. Also, this DVD is brand new and in pristine condition gently handled without any scratches and fingerprints whatsoever. I've just tried the aps again this time reducing the kbps but no dice. The only thing working is DVD Decrypter and possibly VirtualDubMod.
Thanks
