scratch audio

Post by ddyszel »

Hi, I've tried this before with no response, but let me try again.

How do you get to hear audio while setting your editing points by moving the icon on either the preview window or along the time line?

What version are you using? I believe that's only available with v11.

I'm using VS10. If this is not available as a standard feature, how doyou edit to audio cues? Is it really available on 11?

You need to display the WAV lines on the audio track so that you can see where the beats are located.

I can appreciate your replay, but have you ever tried to edit a music video without hearing where the beat is? I've been using Media Studio Pro for years and appreciate that I can get frame accurate edits by combining true audio and waveform graphics.

I guess I'll pass on Version 11 and stick to Pro for serious editing and VS 10 for easy DVD creation

I normally use MediaStudio Pro for tasks of this nature but i have just checked that my method can be done with VideoStudio.

What I do is stagger my pictures along two tracks, lengthen or shorten them as necessary and then butt them up so that they are synchronised with the music.

In VideoStudio you cannot have gaps on the Main Video Track and so to do it this way you have to use two overlay tracks as a temporary measure.
Play the music and pause at the point where you want the picture to change. Place a Cue marker and then resize and reposition your clips to that cue marker. When you are happy with your results just drag the clips upwards onto the Video Track.

Hi Steve,
I just wanted to clarify something. Are those "cue markers" you have on the screen simply the chapter point markers?

Hi Lance,

In VS10+ yes they are just chapter point markers. However in VS11+ they have included cue markers. That looks like VS11+ in Steve's image. I did notice that they appear the wrong color for cue points, which should be blue, and the Chapter Points are orange.

You Eagle eyed lot, I just quickly knocked up a screen shot to demonstrate a short "How to" and you noticed the color of the Chapter/Cue marks!!

Technically you should use Cue marks of course for this routine and not chapter marks - even though they will of course do the job.
The difference between Cue marks and Chapter marks comes into effect when you enter the next stage - DVD Authoring.

You can get the Authoring Module to create your chapters in accordance with chapter marks you set in the editing stage - even when creating an MPEG file first.

I just got this note from tech support:
(In VideoStudio 10 Plus, you can set edit points based on sound in Audio View. Drag the Jog Slider to the point where you want your audio to start. Cut the clip and mark it in. Same thing, drag the Jog Slider to the point where you want your audio to end and mark it out.

Tip: Hold Shift key then select Home on the Navigation Panel to move to previous segment. Hold Shift key then select End on the Navigation Panel to move to the next segment.

Thank you and hope this helps. )

Actaully it made very little sense...but I did find that in ANY view, if you hold down the shift key while moving the slider.....you get AUDIO! It's not frame accurate, but close enough for most work!
