Can anyone convince me to upgrade from VS 10 to 11?

Post by jiec168 »

Hi,

I have been using VideoStudio for a while now. I recently downloaded a trial version of VideoStudio 11 and tried it to make a DVD movie. Besides the HDV capability and some other minor changes, I have not found much new in VS11 from VS10 to justify the $59 upgrade cost. I was hoping that the new version has the following features:
  • * to be able to highlight and insert a group of movie scenes or picture images into the movie project at the same time instead of appending to the end of movie only or drag them one at a time into the movie
    * to be able to apply the same transition to a group of movie scenes or images for slide show at the same time instead of having to do it one at a time
    * to be able to insert a group of ripped audio music into the movie at the same time
    * to be able to tell which movie scene or image has been used in the movie project on the top right box
Thanks for your help in advance.

Often new versions of any software don't justify the cost to some users.
I too find nothing that interests me to tempt me to upgrade from 10 to 11 but other users may find the extra features are useful.

In answer to your first feature which you wished 11 had well let me tell you that v10 already has that feature (and maybe also v9).
To add more than one video clip anywhere in an existing project HOLD down the CTRL key while you click on each clip you want, then drag any of the highlighted clips to where you want them in the timeline. Now here is the 'secret'. Do NOT release the left mouse button until all clips are 'read' otherwise nothing seems to be transferred. Release the left mouse button once all clips have been 'read'.
Regarding the second' on your 'wish list'
You can set up a DEFAULT TRANSITION in PREFERENCES. Thsi should be automatically applied between each clip in the timeline as you add them.
Regarding the third in your 'list'
The method described above (the first in your wish list) should apply.

* to be able to apply the same transition to a group of movie scenes or images for slide show at the same time instead of having to do it one at a time
Although it is not exactly what you want, in VS11+ you have the ability to right click on a transition and select "Apply current effect to whole project".
