Geetings again all-
I am in post with a project that includes mostly pre-recorded voiceover, but I have some footage of talking head where the sound is not that good. Anyone suggest a way to clean up the audio on this- tried MSP8 but could not get good results. Lots of echo and breath into the mic. Plus, levels are so much higher than the other stuff. Help, (Devil?) once again appreciated.
Recommend Audio editing?
What I normally do in this situation is to create an audio file of the project from within MSP8. This is pretty much the same as creating a video file, but saves the output as .wav (or whatever else you choose). I recommend .wav as it's much less compressed and saves quicker.
Then use an audio editing program to tidy it up. I use Adobe Audition, but there are some free apps which are pretty good, such as Audacity.
I'm a bit 'hit and miss' but I usually scroll through the various filters and presets in the audio editor till I find the one that does what I want, tweak the settings and I'm done. Then go back to MSP8, split the video, delete the audio, and replace with the modified .wav file. Keep the .wav file the same length during editing and it should go back into place and still be in sync.
I have had some good results even with reducing the horrible clipping noise from some poor camera work. Digital audio should max out at -12Db I think.
Good luck.

I would use Audacity (open-source app), but nothing can create what isn't there. Its noise reduction module is superb, in most cases, but you may require to do a little trial and error tweaking for the least unsatisfactory results.
