DVD Capture duration

Post by Norma »

I have just purchase Videostudio 8 with AC3 plug in for Dolby Digital. I am trying to import a DVD which has 3 clips the longest being about 15 minutes long. After importing the longest clip there is only 6 minutes captured. Is there a default length? - I have about 30 GB free on each of my hard drives. Why cant I capture more minutes. Any help please?

I did not use any template - Just went into VS8 - via movie wizard and click on Import DVD. When to DVD Drive and select DVD clips - one of them which is about 15 minutes long but only about 6 minutes is being captured. Where are the template held?

Did it capture as separate clips?

Check if the 15-minute clip was imported as separate video clips. The import from DVD utility tends to break up the import at each chapter point. (at least I've seen that in other Ulead products).

Make sure to select all chapters from the original DVD that you wish to import -- the standard Windows selection mechanisms apply.

DVD duration - Help

Post by Norma »

Hi all - I am unable to select any particular chapter - I just go to the Video-TS folder which lights up the OK button the it displays the 3 clips - but it shows the 15 mins clips as being 6 minutes long. I have tried changing capture plug in to various format but to no avail. Is there some sort of plug in I need - what is annoying is the missing mins are the ones I am trying to copy. I have tried using a screen where it scans the clip but it only picks up the 6 mins it has imported in. The clips are recorded on my Sony DVD Record on the television so there are no chapters. I am trying to log a call with Ulead support but for some reason I cant get to the technical support page. Any help or ideas please!!!

Norma - is this a disc that you or maybe a friend burnt yourself - that is it is not a commercially produced disc ??

If it is a personal disc then just try in "My Computer" copying all the .VOB files on the disc to a folder on your hard drive and then rename every file from #####.vob to #####.mpg (where the #'s are the real filenames) make sure you do not have "hide extensions etc. " selected in control panel so you can see what your doing, then import the mpeg video files direct into UVS using the library and drag and drop or the "insert video" option.

Hi - Thanks - Changing the file extension worked and I am now able to insert the whole clip into UVS - but when in Edit mode everything has slowed down completely - If I move the scroll bar I have to wait about 2 minutes before the video displays where I have stopped.

Your system may just barely be meeting the UVS system requirements then. Ideally, you would have 512MB of RAM or more, paired with a fast CPU and hard disk. Also, UVS8 in its unpatched form had some nasty memory leaks, in particular in the Share stage when preparing DVDs, so apply any updates that may be available for your version of UVS.
