Hi,
Go into the Windows Control Panel and open up "Sounds and Audio Devices." Click on the Audio tab and make sure that the default playback device is correct. You should select the driver for your soundcard in this setting.
The problem is often caused by some other program or sound driver installing its own default playback device.
Hope this could help. =)

STILL GET ERROR
Thanks, France I checked that and the default is correct and when I test the mic the sound meter shows it is receiving noise. One other think though. I tried adding voice using Movie Factory 6 plus and it worked fine. My work around was to take the sound file MF6 created and add it to my VS11 voice line. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

With my own voiceovers, I invariably use a third party audio program (in my case, Nero's Wave Editor). This was because of problems I had with audio in VS7, so I just got into the habit. In fact, until your post, I had not even bothered testing the audio recording segment of VS11+.
However, I just did so and it worked fine.
I assume by your last comment that you checked the Windows audio mixer to ensure that in the Recording part, the MIC was enabled and other devices X'ed out...?
