New member new to VideoStudio. How do I select Pal or NTSC
On installation the program seemed to default to NTSC.
How do I change that?
I would want to send my DVD to the USA and use them in UK, so having access to both standards is appreciated.
I cannot see anything in the menus or the handbook. Searched several times in the forum but could not see anything that helps.

You have to set it in Project Properties but as you say it doesn't describe how to in the manual.
I have described the procedure here

Perhaps we have met.
Began in Staffordshire County and Stoke On Trent Constabulary as a cadet in 1971, became a regular in 1973 then
in 1974 the West Midlands Police was formed. I was stationed at that time at Aldridge & Brownhills.
later moved to Walsall then later to Thornhill Road, Handsworth.
Promoted Sergeant in 1981 and moved on to West Bromwich.
Still at West Bromwich now but as a civilian as I 'Retired' a few years ago.

When installing VideoStudio 10 Plus the video format defaulted to NTSC and although I changed the country selection to UK, I'm still stuck with the incorrect format and wish to permanently reset to PAL without having to go through the tedious task of resetting the Project Properties eveytime I wish to use the program.
Is it possible to re-install the software over the top of VideoStudio or must I uninstall the program and other related software first.
Pity that Ulead didn't anticipate this problem and provide a simple method of resetting the video format.

Regarding installation, I learned from the very first Ulead program I ever installed (VS7 a long time ago now), that you are asked an 'either/or' question in the beginning of the installation process. Either give your country OR your TV system.
Well, I do both. I select 'Australia' as my country. But then I also go down and select 'PAL/SECAM'. This greys out the country selection, but if you look, you will see that your selected country still has a dot beside it. And by following this procedure every time I install a new Ulead product, I have never experienced (since the first time) a problem with later being confronted by a program operating with the wrong TV system.

This has been asked before and I did spend a couple of hours working my way through various ini files etc and also the windows registry.
Sorry to say that the only way I can find to make it default to NTSC or PAL is to do so at the time of installation.
You could post this as a request here:
VideoStudio Wish List for Future Versions
I can confirm that Ulead DO read this particular post.
When I closed the old one and started a fresh one following the release of VideoStudio 11 I soon got an email from one of the Ulead technicians asking me where the old one was!

Thanks Steve and Ken for your replies.
I must admit when installing VS10, I was not prepared for the question about video format. Having initially accepted the default option and before continuing with the installation, I attempted to revert to the PAL setting by entering UK as the country instead but it refused to accept the change. So I had to complete the installation assuming that the video format default setting could be easily changed later.
Whilst I may not know my PAL from my NTSC, this is the first time I have encountered software which does not permit the registered user to change an important default setting.
Any thoughts about re-installing VS over the top or instead, un-installing first using the Windows Add/Remove utility and a system restore if this is what it takes.

A quick way to re-install - and at the same time keep a copy of your current settings is to rename the following
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio
(Replace Stephen with your XP user name)
to
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudioX
Also rename
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11
To
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11X
If you now run the VideoStudio installation program it will install a fresh copy. Doing it this way you have saved your existing installation which may have some personalised settings. You are then able to copy/paste things from the old installation into the new.
Alternatively you could try renaming the new installation in a similar manner to above and reverting the old installation back to the original names. That in fact might cure the NTSC / PAL issue, especially if it is a registry setting that dictates which region to default to.

Hi Steve....
68 next birthday retired from West Mids Police in 1988.
Started as a cadet, went to Mill Meese training, Course 198 ( I think).
Worked at Aston, Nechells, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield and on Traffic Patrols with stints at the Information Room and eventually on Public Relations.
I only worked at Handsworth during the riots.
Retired started a small business selling big bands on CDs/LPs (imported) kept that going until this year, retired again.
I have posted for more help in the forum, Appreciate your knowledge thus far.

Having received good advice through this forum regarding changing the default video format, I have received the following reply from Ulead support:
Question/Problem: VideoStudio defaulted to NTSC video format during installation. I wish to change the default video format to PAL.
-------------------------------------------
We apologize but reinstallation of VideoStudio is the only solution to make PAL as your default video format. We recommend a simple reinstallation since it will not remove any of your saved projects and capture video files.
