I tried making slideshow with ~3000 pics. I had to keep selecting smaller and smaller groups until it woud let me insert.
i know they will all fit on the dvd - cause google Picasa let me do it....it's just not nearly as groovy as VS.
I'd apprectiate ANY help!

I have no idea. As I said in my earlier reply, I don't know if there is a limit.
But, say your pics are 5 seconds each = 15,000 seconds, or 250 minutes. Assuming your goal is to put them on DVD, I truly don't know what kind of quality you would get trying to fit 250 minutes worth of video on a disc that only holds 60 minutes at best quality.

Erm.... 3000 slideshow pictures.
Not being funny but doesnt that sound just a tad boring?
You would be better splitting them up into small albums and creating DVD's such as
"my visit to....."
"Auntie and Uncle so and so's wedding"
"School sports Day 2007"
If you get my drift.
To simply store all of your 3000 photo's I would
a. Keep them on the hard drive for ease of retrieval.
b. Back them up onto a few DVD DATA discs.
As for the maximum number of photos - consider this.
A movie is a collection of individual pictures being displayed one after the other very quickly so that the eye interprets them as moving.
In the PAL television system there are 25 pictures every second.
so one minute = 25 * 60 = 1500 pictures.
In one hour you will see 1500 * 60 = 90,000 pictures.
