Why Do I Do This To Myself? Capturing 1080i from Canon HV20

Post by profk99 »

Hi, all! I haven't been very active on this forum for a while because I finally got my MicroMV process working right--after 5 years of aggravation!

Now I am starting all over again, tryig to find a good package to handle my new Canon HV20. I am using the trial versions of MSP and VS11, and can get excellent 720x480 video, but cannot capture 1920x1080.

This time around I am testing trial software before I waste several hundred bucks (and hundreds of hours) on four different editors, as I did for my MicroMV time/money pit.

I see that many of you seem to be using HV20's with Ulead, even though it's not on the compatibility chart. Does anyone have a checklist for either MSP or VS that I could use to get started?

I apologize in advance for cross-posting, but I will buy either package if I can be sure it will work.

Thanks!

Did you install VS11+ after MSP or before, it may make a difference.

I know that VS11+ captures in the HDV mode which is 1440x1080i.
So, in your cam if you have a 1920 setting maybe switch the cam to the standard 1440 HDV mode.
Maybe use a different tape and record to HDV 1440 standard.

You may have to re-install VS11+ again after MSP trial, I'm not sure.

I really appreciate your prompt reply!

I am not clear whether the trial version is complete, but the only plugin I can use is "IVI Capture Component".

If I set up to do a capture to DV, I can get glorious 720x480 AVI files--even if I set Project Properties--and set Capture Options to use Project Properties--to 1440x1080 or 1920x1080. Curiously, Media Player 11 shows the clip prperties as "4:3 actual, 16:9 displayed"

Capturing to MPEG, VS also shows total disregard of my Project Properties. Very rude, I must say..

I will try uninstalling MSP and VS11 as you suggest.
