Highly pixellated images after rendering

Hi Folks,

I've made many a successful VideoStudio movie, but this is the first time I've tried incorporating scanned photos. The original photos are 7 cm x 11 cm and scanned in at 300 dpi. They look fine when viewed in Windows at but after rendering my VS 8 mpeg they are very pixellated. I'm rendering in a std output ie NTSC, 720 x 480, lower field first, 24 bit etc. I've also tried a range of other render outputs but all with the same effect.

Can anyone help??
