Question about firewire output from Sony DCR-TRV280

I've recently started transferring video from my cameras via firewire directly to the PC using MediaStudio Pro 8's Capture program. I noticed that when using my Sony DCR-TRV280 it appears that my video shot in 4:3 ratio is being stretched to 16:9 ratio, but this doesn't happen with my JVC GR-D270.

I also happened to test this using WinDV and noticed the same results. So I'm assuming that this is happening with the camera itself and not the software.

Is this normal for the DCR-TRV280 to do this, even if the video is shot in 4:3? Is there a way I can correct this?
