HDV video to HD-DVD on DVD-R disc quality problem...
I have tried to video edit a HDV source video from cannon HV-10 camcorder and create a DVD-R disc for HD-DVD player using 1440x1080 2 channel audio. What I found when I play back the disc on the HD-DVD player (toshiba HD-A2) is that the movie seem slow AND there seem to be interlaced issue with the image. Some how the image does not look smooth and look jagged. This is strange when considering the encoding supposedly to be encoded in interlaced mode with the lower field first. So I do not know what is wrong with it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi
Could you please state the version of VS you are using, and also the specifications of your pc/laptop.
I think that there was a problem during the rendering / burning process.
TIP: Turn off all running applications including anti virus, Norton Utilities, or other memory resident programs, Internet connection, etc before running VideoStudio. If you have hardware devices that are currently connected via USB port like compact flash card reader, removable drives, or any other USB device, you might also want to unplug them temporarily too because they eat up memory as well.
Anyway, please complete first the required details so that users can have
provide a better suggestion/help for you.

VS 11 Plus.
Actually, I solved the problem. The HD-DVD disc should has been mastered using frame based and not upper/lower frame. Now, everything looks exactly as expected. I would have preferred to be able to do everything in H264 or VC1 encoding. For now, I am happy.
If any one know how to get VS11 Plus to encode in H264 or VC1 for HD-DVD disc, please let me know.

It can only do mpeg2 for HD-DVD. There's not many options out there for HD-DVD Authoring -- so even in its basic form, VS11+ and MovieFactory 6 Plus are a pretty decent deal if you want to create 3X DVD's (HD-DVD on regular DVD5/9 discs), and also burn to HD-DVD discs.henrycyao wrote:If any one know how to get VS11 Plus to encode in H264 or VC1 for HD-DVD disc, please let me know.

The HDV 1440x1080i recorded from these HDV cams should be Upper_Field_First.Actually, I solved the problem. The HD-DVD disc should has been mastered using frame based and not upper/lower frame.
But this may not be your case because you stated a file (on your harddisk), someone could have rendered the original file to frame_based and your source video is frame_based.
But if you record from a HDV cam the videos are usually "Upper Field First".
Also depends if your source video is in the transport stream or program stream format.

The files was captured using HDVSplit from Canon HV-10 through the firewire interface. I am not sure if the HDVSplit converts into Frame based. When I played back using computer, it still showed some interlaced issues. So I assumed it kept the capture at one to one.
I had to use HDVSplit because for some reason part of the file had some MPEG2 packet corruptions that caused the Scene splitter in VS 11 Plus to hang. So I gave that up and use HDV split and get what I needed out of it.

Hi,
I would read this complete thread. you don't want the TS stream if you captured in TS format and inserting isn't picking up the correct fielding informatiion. I found that small files captured using HDVsplit are read as frame_based by VS11+ when they are actually Upper_Field_First. I've had probems with TS format in VS11+, not with the PS format.

The capture problem in VS11+ may possibly be errors on the tape. I've come across this before and it can be a bear to work around the errors.
I know the ads say DV tape but I've found not just any DV tape is OK for hd-mpeg2 recording.
If you were happy with frame based wait until you see the video in it's proper form (UFF), it should look really nice.
