 I spent all day yesterday composing the video of my son's graduation on the trial version of videostudio plus 11. I was doing great. After finding my old videostudio 9 cd shattered in my son's room after Best Buy sent my relatively new laptop http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho ... 35946.html(hp Pavillion dv9000) out for a new electrical wire and gave it back formatted, I googled for a 9 download, didn't find one & downloaded the 11 plus trial version. I was very happy with the new version and unleashed my creativity for an entire day. I downloaded the video from my Sony DCR-TRV340. Broke it into scenes, added transitions, found an 8th grade graduation vcd & stumbled upon the way to get that into the program and edit it for an overlay & added *.mpg files in the background and figured out how to control the volume as I watched the creation to make perfect background music, etc. At the end, I added *.jpg files with panning and zooming and more *.mpg. It was so late, I sent it to disk, realized how slow it was and went to bed. Anxiously arising to get it out and play it, I found :

Image[/img]

Annoyed, yet determined, I tried again & again, changing a setting here and there each time with same results. (Then I remembered the axiom about doing the same thing and expecting different results....) So I googled around and read what I could find. When my head stopped spinning, I decided to try disabling the internet and exiting all the icons on the bottom right of my screen including security programs. Same result. Then I tried doing that with a speed of 4x. Same result. I looked in my programs and wondered if "C:\Program Files\Sonic\DigitalMedia Plus v7\MyDVD Plus\MyDVD.EXE" was one that might mess things up, but since I don't have the program on disk to reinstall, I didn't want to risk losing it. I snagged some more screen shots to further clarify what I have:http://elisetimpe.com/ulead%20errors.htm
Can you help me? I really like this program because I can usually "guess" my way through to a great end product but I know zip about video production.
What's really scarry is that I use this for my business & if I spend this much time on a client's home and then can not produce the results on disk and internet (via utube unless I can get a flash output from 11), I will feel worse than this guy>> :x....especially since I went ahead and purchased it from Buy.com

I suggest that you create the files then burn to DVD (using your favourite DVD burning software such as Nero or Ashampoo) rather than letting VideoStudio burn directly to DVD.
Untick Creat Disk and instead select Create DVD folders then select where you want the files created.
Once this is complete then use DVD burning program and select the folders created at the location you chose above.

Just looking at your nice picture there, are you trying to burn from the time line? That's sometimes (mostly) a no-no. I think I can see assets in your timeline still, there should be nothing there.
If you follow the recommended procedure then you should output your masterpiece to a DVD compliant MPEG2 file first. THEN start a new project so that there is nothing in the timeline, THEN go straight to Share (do not pass go, do not collect $200) THEN load the MPEG2 file you created into the DVD burning module and go from there.

Thank you for your fast replies. Before I go to sleep, I need to ask: How do I output to a DVD compliant MPEG2 file? I tried going to the Share step, which popped up another window over the timeline and checking the "create dvd folders" box. As I was waiting, the timeline was still visible in the window under the Share one, then I got the error.
I just went back and checked the options under Tools to see if there was something there, but I can't say I understand all of those options. Is it there?

Please read the Suggested Workflow that is referenced above (as the recommended procedure).

When you have finished working on the project in the timeline go to SHARE - CREATE VIDEO FILE then select an appropriate DVD compliant MPEG2 choice from the drop down menu that will appear.

OR....do what Blacklab says and follow that link cos' all I am doing here is repeating what his post is pointing to! :D

This is really getting old. I've been at it for 3 days! I did read the Suggested Workflow. The problem is that no matter what I do, it will not render to anything without:
Image

This time, I got excited because I almost saw 100% on the bottom meter (at the end of the title rendering) before it changed to the above error.
I've tried a variety of things. I tried:
*share>create disk
*create disk>create dvd folders
*create dvd folders & create disk image
*turning off program turning on and going to the 2nd of the 3 program options, bringing in the vs project and "create disk".

It does a great job of editing and letting me play it while editing, but as far as rendering goes, I wait 30min to 1+ hours only to find out there is an "unspecified error" :x

Now I'm thinking that I'll delete and reinstall the program. Then I'll bring in my project and try rendering again. I guess that at this point, my project is just a set of instructions for Ulead to apply to my video/audio/jpg files, so I must get it to follow the instructions and render the finished video somewhere (MPEG2?) so I can pick it up from there and put it on a disc.

Why can't the #$%%^ program work ALL the way to conclusion?? Are the program designers half in the dark like me? To me, working the computer and various programs is similar to paying to go into "a house of mirrors" and find your way out. The thing is...I don't find 3/4 of the path to get out and sell my results to the public as a finished product, leaving customers stuck in the last quarter to call around looking for the way out.

What else can I try to get it working? I'm getting frustrated, but I really appreciate the answers you've all been giving me and all your help.

Forget the burning module. Before you ever open the burning module, once you have finished editing, select Share > Create Video File > DVD. (Do NOT choose Share > Create Disk at this stage!) This will do the necessary conversion of your project into DVD-compatible mpeg-2 as a separate step from the burning phase. I suspect you have been combining both the conversion AND the burning in one step. Each is incredibly demanding of computer resources, and if your computer is, for whatever reason, not up to the job, it will keel over.

Once the conversion is complete and a new icon of the mpeg-2 is added to the library pane, save your project. Then choose File > New Project. This will clear the timeline. Don't worry about giving the new project a name: the objective was merely to clear the timeline of your existing project.

NOW choose Share > Create Disk, and the burning module will open. There should be nothing in its timeline at this stage. Now click the button up in the top left "Add Media" and browse to where your new mpeg-2 is stored (normally in your working folder: File > Preferences). Select that file and it will appear in the timeline. (Do NOT select the project .vsp file. Only the new mpeg-2 file.)

This next step is also important: in the little cogwheel icon in the bottom left of the burning screen "Project Properties", make sure the box beside 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files" is ticked.

Now build your menu. Be advised that if you are using some of the special menu transition effects, this can stuff up the burning process too. So as an experiment to make sure the above process actually works, keep your menu relatively simple at this stage.

Now you can go to the final burning page and either burn a disc, an ISO image file or a Video_TS DVD folder. And hopefully this time, it will work.

:( Here I am again. I was so excited by the idea that I'd overlooked the screen:
Image
It was going slow like the old ulead did when making a disc file. But when I got home from my visit and I went to see the file, I saw:
Image
Boo hoo!!!
Guess I'll try the one that says 16 whatever and see if that one works.....

 I read that link and tried it. Still had the library error. My computer has "media" edition installed, lots of hard drive, etc.
Yeah, it's a laptop, but this is really discouraging.
I disabled most of the stuff that loads up on startup including antivirus. I can not create a video file, share video online or anything else. I just started to select a different output every time I get the error & there is no change.

Hi
Some thoughts.
Obviously you have a problem, You may have a corrupt file or transition in the project. Difficult to diagnose.

Try a new project using the sample video and images provided by VS, I know there are only a few. Do not use any transitions.
Now try a render Share-Create Video File. Does that cause problems. If Ok add a few transitions.
Use the ones you are using for the problem project.

As you seem to be using Flash transitions, have you got the latest Flash Player installed?

New Approach

Post by homeplace »

I threw a few video clips and still images on the timeline, added some transitions and a music track. It flawlessly created a MPG2.

Since my last post, I contacted the Ulead tech support. After the usual type of problems of holding while finishing War and Peace, then having the line go to busy signal a couple of times, I got thru. The tech support guy said: that error is usually encountered with a corrupt file. Reinstall. Oh, he offered that it be a clean uninstall & install with antivirus turned off. When asked if I needed to make the file first, then brn to disk, he said no.

I hung up and uninstalled, booted up the computer under "selective startup", navigated to ulead.com and reinstalled the program. After that, everything happened as stated in my previous posts.

I'll go back, delete my clipped videos, reclip the original, redo the whole thing and get back to you all on the results. At least I'm getting practice. Maybe it will be more polished...thank you again for all of your help.

Follow up. I haven't gotten far with my video. I just re set my clips, been reading the tutorials & learned to do an easy slideshow with photos. That rendered into a file.

I've got the same error on the same version 11.
When creating disc folders for my 5-hour film (with no transitions, only clips, music, titles, images) the error pops up after 1/7 of expected time length.
