Cannot export WMVHD files using Trial Version Ulead Video

Post by elikd »

Hello,

The MAIN reason I am interested in Ulead Video Studio 11 is to convert MPEG 4 files (720P 29.97 FPS) from my Sanyo HD1 camera into WMVHD files. I have the trial version and I am running Vista 64 bit. It loads the MPEG4 files fine. I click Share, create video and select WMV-HD 720P. The Properties show the following:

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 16:9, 20 fps
Frame-based
22.050 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Windows Media Video 8 for Color Pocket PCs (225 Kbps)

What is generated is 208*160 20FPS highly compressed video clip. Is this happeing because it is a trial version????? The MAIN thing I am interested in is the ability to convert to MPEG4 720P to WMVHD 720P in order to stream HD video to my XBOX 360. Thanks for any help.

For starters, VISTA does not support mpeg4 standard.

I don't think it's because of a trial version.
But I think the last line in the parameters conflicts with the beginning of it.

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 16:9, 20 fps
Frame-based
22.050 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Windows Media Video 8 for Color Pocket PCs (225 Kbps) (I don't think this is a high definition template)

When you select the template look closely at the exact parameters that will be used, sounds like the template isn't matching the true encoding parameters you want to use.
Cllck on the options or advanced and go into the windows templates, you should see many wmv templates listed, in these listings you should see a HD1280 template select and use one of those. You can also customize you own wmv templates and save them for future use.

Thanks!! I will check it today after work...

Thanks a lot for your answer, I will check it out this evening after work. The strange thing is that the only thing I have done is install Ulead, I havent changed anything. Is it normal to have to configure the templates to match what their names says they do on a default install?

NOT WORKING

Hi there,

Still cant get WMVHD to be created. I cant help but think that some things are not included in the trial download because it looks like the profile for WMVHD doesnt even exist. Can anyone confirm that this should work fine on Windows Vista 64 bit???? I cant buy this if it doesnt do what I need. Thanks!!!!

I am having this exact same issue. Ulead will simply not allow an export of any WMV video other than in the pocket pc or broadband format. This is extremely irritating for me. I just finished editing a video that took a good 20+ hours of work to create, only to realize that now I cannot export the movie in the format that I need.

I am running a vista 32bit machine, is this a vista only problem? Are any other trial members (running xp) getting the same issue?

EDIT: Available profiles listed in Ulead Custom WMV sharing options

So, I talked with a tech support guy at Ulead and he said that the WMVHD on XP is working fine and will test exporting on a Vista machine and will e-mail me the resolution.

If anyone has any advice on how to solve this matter, please let us know, as I am sure there are many people with the same problem.

Let me know when you hear something..

I just emailed tech support. I purchased the program thinking this was because it is a demo. The full version does the SAME thing. If the product is "Certified for Vista" it has to work. Let me know if you hear something. Thanks!!!!

I don't think it's the Vs11+ program, when you go into the options or advanced sections for producing a HD-WMV video you should definitely see the Windows Encoder Series Version 9
I don't understand why this isn't installed during a Vista installation.
Search on the MS website for "Windows Media Encoder 9" package.
Download the package and install it. Then when you go into this screen posted above you will see the HD templates. You should customize your own anyway.

I think this is it but not sure, I thought the package was bigger, if using Vista make sure to read the provided links by MS. They have additional patches for vista and HD-WMV encoding.

This problem is not new , It had been discussed in closed JCHunter hdtutorial already on VS10
To have different wmv-hd quality:
I needed to install the following components
1-WMV 9 codec
2-WMV 9 encoder
3 studio8 (trial)
Only after installing studio8 did I get all WMV-HD quality options in VS10 (tried it many times).
I think that Ulead put this limitations in VS in order to sell more professional studio8. This is maybe legitimate but is not said clearly when you buy VS10

Toni, I haven't had that problem. After I install just the package I linked above "Windows Media Encoder 9 Series" I then can access and create a HD-WMV video file in many programs, ulead VS/MF and other video editors. You can also encode directly using the MS encoder (not the MS MovieMaker, the encoder).
One of the key thing with HD-WMV video is you usually have to customize your own templates to suit your environment (lan, streaming, hardware playback devices).
I find the windows customizing can be confusing until you get use to it.

What is the program "Studio 8" you are referring to?

Resolved MWVHD Export Issue!!!

Post by elikd »

Guys thanks for your suggestions,

It works. Thanks to etech6355 for sending me down the right path. In Vista (for some reason) you have to install the Windows Media 9 Encoder. The ONLY think you have to install is the encoder. The URL is as follows:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... fault.mspx

One caveat, even if you have Vista 64 you still need to download the 32 bit version. I installed the 64 bit version first but Ulead does not "see" it. I uninstalled it and then installed the 32 bit version. Now eveything works GREAT!!! Thanks again for all your help!

Thanks so much for posting the solution. Elikd was right, just the encoder 9 needs to be installed. Thanks again guys!

Etech
Under available encoding profiles (Share –Create (wmv asf)-Custom-Options) : I have 6 ULEAD WMV HD quality profiles for 25p : 3 in 720 and 3 in 1080 (standard, High and Ultra : different mainly in bitrates)
The same under 30p
Do you have these profiles ?
