Ulead and Media Center Problem

Post by BullittMustang »

Whenever I use the Ulead software and then close it, if try to watch a TV show with media center the TV picture does not open. I get sound but no picture. I restart the computer and it works fine until I use Ulead again and I have to restart again to get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be causing this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Check the Windows Event Log for error messages:

START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code appertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

You have not told us which version of VideoStudio you are using, VideoStudio 10 and above is designed to work with Windows MediaCentre but previous versions were not listed as supported.

Thanks for your reply. I am using Video Studio 10 plus. I checked the log and there were a few errors but none of them were from today. There must be some sort of conflict with Media Center. I get sound but no picture until I restart the computer. Maybe Video Studio uses something that Media Center needs and doesn't release it until windows restarts. I don't know, does that make any sense?

It makes sense and at least on my systems I have also experienced the same thing. Sometimes I'll get the video & no audio, depends on the computer.
My hauppauge card sometimes will do this. It's related to the hardware chipsets on the TV card, unless you can unload and reload the drivers you usually have to reboot.
Some capture cards come with a reset program or a way to reset the TV card.

Aha - unload drivers. |You can try this registry fix - something I always add to the registry with every fresh installation of Windows.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"AlwaysUnloadDLL"=dword:00000001

Copy and paste to notepad all of the stuff in red above.
Save it as unloaddll.reg (any name will do but it must end in .reg)

The double click that reg file to add to the windows registry.
What this does is unloads the the unused dll's from memory.

Reinstallation Folder for VS11

Post by caroldc2 »

Someone above recommended clean reinstallation and linked to Ulead support page
http://www.explorecommerce.com/members/ ... 31&ID=9882
Which is fine for VS10 - but not for VS11 when you get here....

4. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
5. Delete the folder "{E188D820-1218-4E28-8BCA-91134C3664C2}"

The problem is that is for VS 10 - and it's a different folder for 11 (assuming you can find a folder with the right date at all, which I couldn't second time tried a clean reinstallation.) I even called the tech and waited and he said, oh, just delete them all.

Anyone know what the magic folder name is for VS11??

Thanks for that page!!

Post by caroldc2 »

Unfortunately I had not found that page in my many searches of forum.
You actually include the regedit {folder number} for both VS11+ and MS8 (trial), which even the ULEAD tech did not email me back last night,. So HIS list for reinstallation didn't work either.

So I'll take a break and follow your instructions exactly and hopefully will finally be back to work! At least this forced me to catch up with a bunch of updates for various drivers that I never got after my HP update program stopped working couple years back. Oi Oi Oi!

Reinstall STILL NotWorking; Delete ContentPack?; Where Goes?

Post by caroldc2 »

I tried the various suggestions on http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773 and even had a friend who's a windows expert help me delete everything and its still not working.

One thing it just occurred to me I had NOT deleted was the executed CONTENTPACK. Should I have deleted that? (I see it has on .exe file in it.)

If that's not the problem, I'll just go back to a restore point to the day AFTER the big microsoft downloads and the day before I uninstalled my trial VS11+

ALSO, where does the CONTENTPACK GO once it is opened? ULEAD 11 program file?? Right now it's just sitting in the ULEAD program save file I made up. Any chance that not having it in the right place is making it impossible to even OPEN VS11+?

Thanks...

The content Pack gets intermingled with the rest of the installation and gets deleted along with it.

Did you try the Registry fix I posted above?

Yes, I deleted those registry entries.

I moved VideoStudio11Plus-E-ContentPack.exe to its own ULEAD save file and thought when clicked on it it would find it's home. But it just opened in that file. Guess I should have left it on the desk top. So it did NOT delete when I deleted. Will delete it now.

Plus I think putting that trial MediaStudio pro in might have gotten something confused, or there's another file we missed that has to go. (We went carefully through whole InstallShield and registry.)

So I think just restoring back to day after the Microsoft downloads and deleting the Trial VS11 the right way and then putting in a bunch of necessary updates before putting in the paid for VS11+ might solve the problem.

my profile

Post by caroldc2 »

OK, my profile took this time. I think computer is adequate, except perhaps for capturing from TV which VS11 Read Me said may need 1 G. But I can reinstall my original capture program if necessary. After Vista kinks worked out and have more $ will upgrade to better computer for video. Still going with restore option, though not quite yet.

Still can't install VS11+ -Where get 3 links download again?

Post by caroldc2 »

Ok, XP wouldn't restore to point before first installed VS11+ because it said there would be no changes. Did a couple chkdsk c:/f also and no problems. Next reinstall did not work, though uninstalled all recommended files.

Error message Still telling me screen resolution too small, no matter how many times adjust it, and at 16 bits.

In case the files were corrupted on download, I want a fresh download. I bought program on June 19 but didn't pay $8 to be able to download the program for a whole year. I read elsewhere here Ulead provides the 3 links for a time limited period. Can't figure out where; did explore when logged in to my account ;-(

Anyone know where it is?

ALSO while waiting, uninstalled VS11+ including windvd this time. Noticed I had both WinDVD 4.0 and 8. - maybe that was the problem?

Also this time uninstalled smartsound software at C:/programs.

From XP's Add/Remove uninstalled intervideo deleted intervideo info services and intervideo folders. But chickened out about uninstalling both programs from the C:/programs file because of alert it might harm other programs and not sure what other programs they are talking about.

Assuming I get new file downloads, any thoughts before I try yet another reinstall?

Thank you!
