ULead Video 11plus Bonus CD + Vista
I just upgraded to ULEAD Video 11Plus and downloaded the bonus CD. I installed it. However, when I go to the video portion of the CD which has the Introductions and Samples under the VIDEO folder, I cannot get them to play. They are .AVI files and I have DIVX CODEC plugin installed with my Windows VISTA media player.
When I try and play the .AVI files in those folders i get the following message:
Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.
Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
Your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller, requires an updated driver. To determine if an updated driver is available, see Windows Update at the Microsoft Web site, or see the sound device manufacturer's Web site.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. Try using Device Manager to check the status of your sound device.
To check the status of your sound device
Do one of the following:
If you are running Windows XP, click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Manage.
In the pane on the left, click Device Manager.
In the pane on the right, expand Sound, video and game controllers, and then look for the name of your sound device.
Do one of the following:
If your sound device is listed but the icon includes a red "X," the device has been disabled. To enable the device, right-click the icon, and then click Enable.
If your sound device is not listed, in the pane on the right, expand Other devices. If Multimedia Audio Controller appears in the list, right-click the icon, and then click Update Driver or Update Driver Software. Follow the on-screen instructions to find and install the driver software.
If you are not able to find and install the correct driver software, see your computer manufacturer's or sound device manufacturer's Web site for further assistance.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again. For details, see your computer manufacturer's or sound device manufacturer's Web site.
You are trying to play a file on the Internet and the server might be temporarily unavailable or there might be a network issue. Try again later.
You are trying to play an MP3 file that contains compressed ID3 headers. The ID3 header is a portion of the file that stores the song's album information (for example, the song name, artist name, album name, and genre). This information is sometimes called a "tag."
To fix the problem, make a copy of the file and then use a non-Microsoft ID3 tag editing program to remove or reset the file's ID3 headers. After you remove the ID3 headers, Windows Media Player should be able to play the MP3 file.
Attempting to remove ID3 headers might damage the file and make it unplayable. Therefore, always make a copy of the file before you edit it.
If this solution does not resolve the problem, the file might be corrupted.

This error might have been triggered by an error in another program or component of Windows. The following information describes the original error.

Any suggestions? Is this a codec problem and if so what codecs for VISTA have you been sucsessful with?
Thanks

Hi,
How about trying to download an updated driver for your sound card?
You can also try to do a clean re-installation. Here is the procedure:

Hope this would help. =)

I have exactly the same problem. I have tried to view these AVI files on several different computers; one with Vista, one with XPpro, and another with XPhome. I get the same errors each time.
I also have tried Nero showtime, windows media player, and powerdvd.
Ulead tech support told me to download a new VISTA codec pac. I did that but these files still give me the same error message and don't play. I am waiting for another reply from Ulead tech support.
I looked at the files with GSPOT and it says I need INDEO 5 codec that is not installed.
Has anyone every gotten these to work?

I was under the impression that the Indeo codec was not included with VS11 -- unlike previous versions -- precisely because it did not work in Vista... If that is so, then it seems that those videos would only work on a computer running VS11 on XP or earlier.
Please read the reference to Indeo in the quotation cited by Vidoman here: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 467#117467

Thanks for the info...
One of the computers I tried, with XPpro, had VS9 on it and it didn't work. So you are saying only VS11 on XP will support those AVI files.
Why are they included? Why isn't that noted, etc.
What are these files? What am I missing? Doesn't seem to be much else on the bonus CD except for powerdvd.

Shhhhhh! PowerDVD is the competition. What is on the Bonus disc is InterVideo's WinDVD.
But never mind. Back to your main point. If your other computers don't have the Indeo codec on them, then no, VS11 won't play the files encoded with that codec. I think with earlier versions of VS, the Indeo codec was included in the Extra Content download file.
But it does not come at all with VS11+ -- that is my understanding of the Ulead blurb to which I referred you above.
I can't tell you if those Indeo videos will work in VS11 on an XP computer since I only installed VS11 briefly on such a computer to test something else. I otherwise run it on a computer with Vista Home Premium... My guess is that if your XP computer has the Indeo codec in it, there is no reason why the video would play in VS11. But as I say, I cannot confirm this empirically.

Sorry, I meant windvd, of course.
On the XP computer with VS9, the files would NOT play. not in windvd, not windows media player, not nero showtime, etc. Same is true on another XP computer, without VS. So I have no way to every see these files.
Hence my other questions about what they are and what am I missing? If anyone has seen them, please tell us what we're missing.
Thanks.

But if you don't have the Indeo codec on these other computers with XP, regardless of the version of VS, of course the videos won't play...
I am not sure why you are worried about it though. Apart from count-down clips (5n-4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 0) or clapper-board clips, I have never used any of the sample videos from Ulead in any of the versions since VS7 anyway...

Hi, I have the same problem. New laptop, running Vista home premium. I installed VS11+ last night (no other versions of VS on pc), then tried to open and play the avi. files from the Bonus CD....... but couldn't.
It's not much of a Bonus CD if it doesn't play! I already have WinDVD, as it was preinstalled on my machine.
Any suggestions as to how to view these files?
Many thanks

If you have Vista, you won't be able to play the videos if they were encoded with the Indeo codec, period! As I said in my first post, or as was said in the link I posted, the Indeo codec does not work on Vista so was not included in VS11.
As for Bill's question, my assumption is based on the fact that with most versions of VS, and certainly from the full version of VS9, the Indeo codec was part of the installation package. If the video in question would not play on your friend's XP computer with VS9, then I can only assume that he did not install the Indeo codec during the installation of VS9. It was, if I remember correctly, in the Extra Content part of the package, and not everyone installed every part of that package.

That's my attitude too. And if they are indeed similar (or identical) to the ones in earlier versions, then all they are are cute little animations, like a bee buzzing along busily between flowers and things like that which some people might like to use as backgrounds for opening titles, but I am afraid that is not my style.
