reinstalling Videostudio 10

Post by benewbe »

I hope someone can help me reinstall v10.
I recorded the serial # on the installation CD before discarding the box in which the product came.
I now find I can't reinstall Viseostudio 10 because I have too many characters.

I wrote down the serial # as: (where n is a number)

Ann-nA0-nnn-nAnnn nnnnn nnn - 1

I bought the boxed version from PC world in Stevenage, UK on 3 Feb 2007. Surely I don't have to buy a new copy simply because I threw the box away?

Can anyone tell me which part of the character string above is the serial number?

I would be very grateful for any help.
(I haven't given any tech details of the pc because I don't see that they're relevant here).

Not sure if you wrote the serial number correctly as mine is in the format -
nnnAn-nAnnn-nnnnnnnn

I suggest that you try and contact ULEAD via www.ulead.com

I will confirm that my serial number format is the same as John's.

reinstalling Ulead

Thanks,both for the swift response.
Not sure where that leaves me, though. I guess the end of the number is OK, but the beginning will have to be guessed. I make mistakes like everyone else, but I don't think I would have got the beginning of the number that wrong. Still, I'll have a go at the weekend when I've got a few hours to spare!

Do you still have VS10 installed on your computer, and were only intending to overwrite it? Or have you already uninstalled it?

If you still have it on your system, click on the '?' up in the top right of the VS screen, and choose 'About VS10'. The splash screen that appears has the Ulead logo in the top half, and immediately under it, the version number and under that, the serial number (and yes, in 18 digit form xxxxx - xxxxxx - xxxxxxxx).

Can you also tell us whether you registered the software after installing it the first time? If so -- and you can remember your Ulead log-on and password or wrote them down correctly somewhere   -- then simply go to the Ulead site and log-on as a registered user. This will allow you to access the page with your registered product(s) and provides the serial number there too.

Unable to access serial # for lead Videostudio 10

Post by benewbe »

I contacted Ulead but they haven't been able to help - they just said the serial # was stuck on the CD sleeve or on the box (which I already knew).
having thrown away the packaging several months ago this advice was no use!.
I'll be more careful in future to check any #s I write down, but that still leaves me with a product I cannot reinstall. (I had tried previously repairing, but this had no effect - I still couldn't burn videos, although I could do everything else!

Somehow I think Ulead has corrupted my admin status (is this possible), because I find I cannot use the DVD rewriter since trying to burn a project, when Ulead crashed.

I've looked in the registry but there are no entries relating to Ulead.

To say I'm annoyed is an understatement.

I suppose teh next step is to create another admin account and try tp reinstall Ulead again, but since I have more than 18 characters in what I thought was the serial # this could take a long time!

I have just found that the serial number for my installation of VS10 is stored in the REGISTRY.

Run REGEDIT (START > RUN then type in REGEDIT hit enter)
Search at
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
MICROSOFT
Ulead Systems
Info
130002800.910000000 <- this number may be different but regardless of value hopefully the serial number will be displayed.
The serial number is displayed as a string in the right panel of screen

I am only assuming that any UNINSTALL process leaves this data stored in the registry. If it doesn't then you won't finf it.

Hope this gets you out of trouble.

ADMINISTRATORS this information )perhaps) should be displayed somewhere in this forum for all to view.

reinstalling Ulead Videostudio 10

Post by benewbe »

I searched the registry and found the numbers in the same format as in the example. But there are too many numbers to enter into the displayed boxes at the start of installation!
This is the point I made in my first post - the numbers I wrote down (seemingly the serial number) when I first installed the software won't fit into the boxes.
The numbers I found in the registry are nothing like the numbers I wrote down, anyway!

The numbers/characters have to be in the format:
nnnnn nnnnn nnnnnnnn to fit into the boxes.

Looks like another week of fruitless dilly dallying!.

I cannot believe I can't reinstall videostudio 10 simply because I haven't recorded correctly the serial numbers.

I just checked John's search method with VS11+ and found my VS11+ serial number, and it was correct.

Incidentally, I haven't cross checked in XP, but in Vista regedit at least. You don't need all the Registry addresses John mentioned. Just the following:
HKey_Local_Machine
Software
Ulead Systems
Info
then the number string.

Can I just confirm with you that when your found the numerical string, the words 'Serial Number' were in the right hand pane of Regedit when you highlighted the numerical string? And if those words are there there, what is the format of the numbers to the right of 'Serial Number' and how many numbers are there if there are not 18 in the xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxx format?

Hi Kn

In answer to your question -

(Default) REG_RZ (value not set)
Serial Number REG_RZ nnnAn-nAnnnn-nnnnnnnn

Can anyone tell me how to embed spaces so that they aren't removed after you post (the example above is formatted with spaces which disappear).

Sorry John -- my question was directed at benewbe, not you. I got the correct format, but I wanted to make sure benewbe was not wanting to use the '13000 etc' number as the serial number; or whether he/she actually looked at the right hand pane of Regedit and saw the words Serial Number. And in turn, if that was there, then what format was the number to its right?

Code: Select all

You should use the CODE Option
its a bit like the quote option

Thanks Ken for correcting me as to the 'address' in the Regsitry where the serial number is stored, benewbe would have been looking everywhere without finding it.
I had too many options opened at the time and became confused.

Thanks also Ken for pointing me to using the CODE option for entering formatted text.

Apparently incorrect serial # for reinstalling Ulead 10+

Post by benewbe »

Thanks for the replies, folks.
The situation is this (to summarise)

1. I searched the registry and couldn't find anything called "serial no" for the product - the string of digits I did find was most certainly not the number I need - it was a simple 2-part string mainly of zeroes.
2. I know for certain that the serial number must be in the format
nnnnn nnnnn nnnnnnnn (ignoring which will be numbers and which letters); When I tried to enter the "serial number" (so I thought) the input screen only allowed blocks of 5, 5 and 8 characters to be entered.

So I have got absolutely nowhere with trying to reinstall the software I paid ¢G60 a few months ago.

This all seems to resolve around the fact that I didn't register the product (thereby giving away the serial#).

This is the first time I have ever been unable to reinstall software. I deal with figures all day long and cannot believe the string of characters I wrote down were not the serial number. If they did contain the actual serial # in amongst gibberish then how on Earth was I expected to know what constitutes the serial # when reinstalling?

The consensus of opinion is that the number is (something) like
nnnAn nAnnn nnnnnnnn (A=capital letter, n= number), but I have 22 characters!!
Perming 18 from 22 is not easy!

Incidentally, the serial # format quoted by jparnold appears to be another variation of character string. Perhaps Corel change the format when the product is upgraded. I have Videostudio 10+.

Anyway, I'll have to leave this for the moment.
I might download the trial version 11 just to get my projects finished.

I'm far from happy though at losing the functionality I paid for, even if I did make a mistake (which I don't think I would have done), and if i did record too many characters then the 'serial #' bit I needed to record wasn't made obvious!

Thanks
Stew
