Capture Device Driver Problem

Post by Garij »

Hopefully someone can help.

I've recently upgraded from VideoStudio 5 to VS 8. I also have purchased a new PC with XP (inc SP2). The upgrade of VS 8 was only installed to the new PC (on top of a re-isntall of v5).

The fireware capture card is the same one I used in my old PC. My old PC also had XP but I had not used VS on the old PC for over 6 months - since before installing SP2.

I also have a SONY DCR PC100 DV recorder which I'had about 3-4 years.

XP found the SONY without trouble and identified it OK. I can capture video from the Sony fine. BUT........ Windows XP now takes 3-4 minutes to find all other local devices (disk drives folders etc) when I select them. For example, if I choose "My Computer" from the Windows XP menu, the PC goes into a search for 3-4 mins before it returns the list of drives/folders. It happens every time.

If I delete the SONY from my compter devices under control panel, the problem goes away.

I hadn't used the SONY or VS on the new machine before. I am guessing the problem relates to SP2 but cannot find anything on this problem on the MS boards. I have tried looking for new/updated drivers for the SONY on the SONY web site and on MS web sites but nothing.

Am hoping as this relates to the DVR, someone here has some ideas...

Hi,

SP2 has been a problem with several folks, especially if added or updated. It doesn't seem to be as much of an issue if part of the install disc.
