I Have Vista, so upgraded to VS11Plus, have problems

Post by larikn »

I installed VS11 on my Vista after discovering that my VS8 did not work. I lost all my Auto Music though, and if I click on Auto music the program crashes, every time.!!
I did get two extra downloads but dont know where to install them too, could this be part of the problem ? There were no instructions that came with them. I have other problems as well but having a solution to this would be great.

I split your post off, since your problem deals with auto music.

You should have 3 files, the main program file, content pack and bonus CD. You need to install the content pack also. The bonus CD is extra stuff, like sample video, images, WinDVD player.

Content Pack

Post by larikn »

Yes I did install the content pack but still have no AutoMusic. Im wondering if I need to select any specific location to install it too.

Is the content pack what contains the auto music. I uninstalled VS8 before starting, should I have done this ? first.

If it was playing up in VS8, my inclination would be to go to Vista's Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall the two SmartSound files you will find there (SmartSound Common Data and Quicktracks). Then go to C:\ and manually remove the folder SmartSound Software if it is still there. Then go to C:\Program Data\SmartSound Software Inc, and manually remove that too. Then C:\Program Files\SmartSound Software, and remove anything that remains of that too.

If you feel brave enough, you might also want to contemplate a Registry search and destroy mission using Regedit to delete any references to SmartSound still in the Registry, but you might just be lucky if you are not brave enough for this. (I hope so anyway...)

Then reinstall VS11. This will ensure that the installation is completely fresh and not affected by any of the problematic files already installed with VS8. (You will note from the above that SmartSound installs quite separately from Video Studio...)

Good luck...!

You might not have, but I understood you to say that you installed VS8 on Vista and found that it did not work... The files it installed would not have been Vista compliant and they will still be there.

Please note I have amended my original post to give you the correct directions for Vista. The directions I gave originally were for XP.

Auto Sound / quicktracks

Post by larikn »

Hi Ken,

Sorry to bother you but I need to get this thing working and I need it urgently. I would really appreciate a little more help.

The only Library that Auto Sound can find is the online samples when I choose all. There seems to be nothing else available and if I go searching for the libraries I can only find one which is 44k called
c:\program data\smartsound software Inc\......
encoding, or Exporters, or Libraries, or Previews, or Sound Files

in Libraries I have Comliled Libraries, Master Libraries or UserData all with sxl extentions.

I have tried unloading, reloading many times without any luck. Can you suggest anything at all ?

I remember having a similar problem with VS9. There was a problem with the SmartSound music. I finally managed to get it going, after several complete, clean, full, uinstall/reinstalls. It also involved a fix from SmartSound. There is a current patch for SmartSound, that is for Vista compatibility, and QuickTime 7.0. Download it HERE

There's some additional support information for SmartSound Quicktracks found here: http://www.smartsound.com/support/updat ... duct=ulead.

I have already downloaded and run this patch, is there are seperate one for quicktime, Ive heard this one mentioned a few times.

Should I perhaps get rid of all the references to Quicktime in the registry and try again ?
