Post by Bish »

When attempting to capture I get small Dialogue Box telling me 'Can not start capture graph' Why is this, and how can I solve the problem? - Have not had this before and have previously captured several footages without problem.

"When I attempt to start my car, it doesn't work. Why?"

How do you expect anyone to help when you don't even provide the most basic information, including: the format you are trying to capture in; the devices involved; how they are connected to your computer; or even the version of Video Studio you are using... It would also be useful to know something about your computer, including its operating system, and whether you have made any recent significant changes to it, either hardware or software related?

Capture Failure(Failed to build Preview Graph)

Post by Bish »

Ken,
Thanks for reply. My car doesn't work either! However sorry to have sold you short on info. The following query was submitted direct to Ulead (Corel) for online assistance. They directed me to the UK phone line assistance who in turn directed me to to The Ulead online forum (Going round in circles!)
When attempting to capture in Video Studio 11, I find that my Sony camcorder is recognised, and the first clip appears in the preview window. However upon clicking on 'capture', I receive an error message which says 'Failed to build Preview Graph' I have recently upgraded to Windows Vista and downloaded the compatible version of Studio 11. I have used VS in one version or another for some years now, and never had this capture problem before. Nevertheless I have found a way of getting round the problem, by capturing footage in Windows Moviemaker, saving it to hard disc, before importing it into Studio 11. This is imported without the footage split into the usual clips, and I have to do this 'manually' before editing. Obviously I would much prefer to capture directly to VS 11 with the clips split by scene."

My Camcorder is a Sony Handycam DCR PC350E PAL via dedicated docking station
Computer Del Dimension 9150
Processor PD940 Dual Core 3.20Ghx 3.19GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU
500 GB Sata Hard Drive
Memory 2048MB
32 bit operating system
Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium
Ulead Capture Tab Boxes ticked - Record directly from CD: Image Capture Deinterlace: Stop DV tape when capturing stops: Show recover DVB-T video warning before capturing Not ticked - Press OK to capture: Show drop frame information:
Hope there is enough information there for you to be able to help me, and many thanks for your interest.
sincerely,

Hi John

Sorry you are having problems, I do not think I can help with your capture problem, I assume you are capturing using Firewire to DV format by your comment--Stop DV tape when capturing stops¡X
Have you tried DVD capture format, do you get the same problem.?
I have seen the warning 'Failed to build Preview Graph' in the past, but restarting The camcorder and starting capture again seems to cure the problem.

It may well be Vista related, especially as you have been successful in the past with a different OS, but that¡¦s just my first impressions.

Split by Scene.

This can be carried out after capture.
I used to use Split by Scene during capture but found it created many separate clips. Ok immediately after capture but if I started a new project and imported the clips to the timeline I found them out of order. VS is not very good at that. (vs9 is ok)

I now capture to one file and split afterwards. This creates a virtual clip for each split scene.
Works for Mpeg and Avi, provided the clip has not been edited first.
