Ulead 11+ Keeps Crashing.. Ready to throw it out window!!!

Post by MercuryStorm »

Created a whole 2 hour video on Ulead 10 last year, and with a couple of Program crashes, all was ok. However, when 11+ was released, Immediatly upgraded it hoping it could only be better, however it looks like Ulead 11 has gone more back then it has forward

The program is randomly crashing with error messages and closing, and often loosing work.. its driving me insane. If anybody has any ideas... please suggest them!

Software:
Windows XP Profesional x64 SP2 with ALL Microsoft Patches
DirectX 9.0c (April Update loaded)
Ulead VideoStudio 11+

PC Spec:
Intel Core 2 QUAD 2.40ghz
4 x 1GB DDR2 800Mhz
2 x 500GB SATA300 Hard disks

I am using a Canon HV20 Video camera, and unfortunatlly Ulead VS11+ wouldnt so "Scene Splitting" in the capture, this option was greyed out. Had to download all the Videos using HDVSplit which worked very well.

Also the Video Quality in the preview window is very "choppy"

Here are the errors from the System event log:

Quite a number of people using VS11 on a computer running XP have found that a variety of problems have been resolved by going to the Microsoft site and downloading the latest Microsoft update patch for DirectX 9.0c, which was only released a week or so ago. In other words, it will be labelled June 2007. I don't know, though, whether there is a special version of that for the 64 bit version of XP, but I imagine that will be clear on the Microsoft site.

(And if you are asking yourself, "why doesn't this guy know?", I am running VS11 on a computer which uses Vista, so it has a completely different version of DirectX to that used in XP...)

Looks like you have AVG running in the background. Try to disable ALL unnecessary services and programs when working with video. Screen savers, anti-virus, connection to the Internet everything, see what happens.
In the "tutorials" section there is a post by Stevej on how to set up a separate hardware profile. I find that is faster than trying to find the conflict occurring.

Crashing in VISTA too

Post by JSKY »

Hi,

I have trial version at the moment and I love UV, but...everytime I try to Save project or during editing I get a small pop-up window with following message:
ULEAD VIDEO STUDIO HAS STOPPED WORKING
Windows is checking for solution"
After that there is no another choice as close the program. It really make me angry first of all when I`m in the middle of the project :(

Please help. Thank You

Then why do they advertise that is VISTA Certified and it works. UV10 got patches in order to work with Vista, so I assume UV11 should work definitely.

Hello, any expert out there???

MercuryStorm,
First, make sure your preferences settings (F6) hotkey are render settings = BEST & "Display notice when inserting first video clip into timeline"=YES.

Your capturing using HDVSplit and using the scene detection.
This may or maynot be a problem as splitting between scences can sometimes cause mpeg2 corruption at the split points. Probably the cause of your crashes maybe. I notice that VS10+/VS11+/MF5+/MF6+/VMS/Vegas do not split HDV when capturing. There must be a reason for this, if it could be done reliably then I would think these other programs would be able to use this feature. These other programs want to detect the scenes after capturing a large HDV video.. I also use HDVSplit but immediately convert them from TS to PS format. If there is any small corruptiion then VS10+/MF5+ corrects this small corruption during conversion from TS to PS format.

If your workflow right now is capturing by HDVSplit and importing into VS11+ then you are natively editing in the TS (transport stream) format. This is a new feature in VS11+ working natively in the TS format. All previous versions of VS worked only in the PS (program stream) format.

Can you start VS11+ and insert one or more of the .m2t files captured in HDVSplit into the VS11+ timeline.
What you need to look for is the correct fielding information in these videos.
Right-click on one of the captured .m2t files and select "Properties", you should see fielding informatiion in the properties box that says "Upper Field First". (Check them all).
If you don't see 'Upper Field First" then VS isn't reading the .m2t files correctly and they are being interpreted as frame based video (which they are not). On my system this reading of the files properties changes, some large .m2t files are being read correctly and others aren't. I don't know why because VS10+ and MF5+/MF6+ read these .m2t files correctly and VS11+ isn't reading them correctly.

VS edits best in the PS format.
In order to get your files into the PS (program stream) format you would use VS10+ that converts them before they are inserted into the timeline or another software product. Or, use VS11+ to capture your videos, when VS11+ captures it converts the video stream from TS to PS format on the fly.

As far as I know in all VS versions to properly edit video your project settings should be equal to your source video(s) settings. It isn't possible to do this manually on my trial version of VS11+ for HDV video. I can insert existing PS HDV videos and have VS11+ match the properties which works. This is a workaround until they release a patch for this problem.

Hi Hi,

Thanks for all the advice so far. So I was checking what you mentioned, and when I right click on files (Properties) in the project bar, they do NOT say "Upper Field First". When I convert the file into PS format using remuxTS then it shows "Upper Field First" and the quality seems much better.

Now I also loaded VS10+ and it doesnt understand the *.m2t files? How can I use VS10+ to convert them to PS format? I have not loaded any patches on the Ulead VS10+ installation, just a straight install

Tommorow I'm going to convert all the files into PS format (and keep the TS versions as backup) and then just Relink them in program. RemuxTS at this moment seems the best option so far, tested it and working, and still keeps the *.m2t file extension, so no need to relink exsisting video files.

Thanks for the advice and will let you know tommorow if the program is more stable in the PS format.

I wonder why they changed to TS format.. hmmm!!

In order to use VS10+ to convert TS to PS you do need to install the VS10+ patch. This patch also allows writing back to HDV tapes and enables TS stream to be read. After you install the patch, when you click on a .m2t file give VS a little time to read the file, after it spares the file then click on the OK icon and follow the prompts. If the file is very large sparcing can take a minute or so.

After you get the hd-mpeg2 files into VS11+ then VS11+ should work with them pretty nice.
Make sure in VS11+ your preferences settings (F6) hotkey are render settings = BEST & "Display notice when inserting first video clip into timeline"=YES.
You need this so when VS11+ loads the hd-mpeg2 video file it will ask you to match the project settings, answer yes.
Then after editing you goto "Share -> Mpeg Optimizer" -> Show_Details->Accept and save the file.
Or, "Share -> Same as Project Settings" (if you matched the project settings as above).

Then to burn a HD-DVD without any re-encoding restart VS11+ as a new project and empty timeline, goto "Share -> Create Disc". In the Create Disk module load the hd-mpeg2 compliant videos, make chapters, menu's and burn a hd-dvd format to standard dvd.

So far, so GOOD.... Converted 1 hours worth of Video to PS format using remuxTS and it has not crashed yet!

etech, you rock :)

Managed to work the whole of last night and this morning before work, and again now, and still going strong. Not a single crash from the software..

Now it needs to be found out if HDVSplit is causing the problem, or if that Ulead VS11+ has a TS issue..

My VS11 Problem:

Post by caroldc2 »

First, the trial VS11 worked fine till last weeks big microsoft update killed it. So I tried MediaStudio8 trial for couple days but decided to buy VideoStudio11 which downloaded today.

However, I can't open it and get the error message to change the screen resolutions to a higher one - no matter how many times I do so, and even change to 16 bit, and reboot. All per recommendations on this forum for people who had same problem with VS10.

Have downloaded newest Directx, other necessary software, tried it without Norton and disconnected from internet. Not quite ready to try to figure out the more complicated fixes above in case someone else has some new solution to the screen resolution problem that keeps VS11 from opening at all.

THANKS :-)
