Please help. Best computer hardware configuration for UVS

Post by screwball2 »

Perhaps this is not a thread for this forum-but I hope it is. I am still in the process of building a system designed for the most acceptable (or application designed) computer set-up for primarily UVS (my non working ¡V non sleeping pastime/love). I have contacted other computer forums (not video production orientated), and ¡¥when/if¡¦ I got replies!! They were contradictory configurations and have gained no valid guidance. I have had help in the past from several UVS hardware wizards on this site that advise on the best set-up for Ulead.
If I may, can I describe my computer case and hardware in the hope that someone out there can point me in the best configuration for UVS?
At this moment in time I am using VS9 but will hopefully progress to 10 as and when finances allow.

I have a tower case with:-
A HP XW 4200 Pentium 4 2.8 ghz Motherboard
A 550w PSU
3 IDE SLOTS (one onboard and a PCI card with two others)
A Samsung 7200 rpm SATA 80 GB Hard Drive
A 160 GB 5,400 rpm HD (IDE)
(Both of the above installed in two separate caddies so I can use other drives)
A Soundblaster Platinum Live 5.1 Drive IR
A DVD/CD RW (IDE)
A CD RW (IDE)

What I need to know is what the best configuration is for IDE cables to what drive/s and should I use the only SATA drive for the master or as a slave for the sole use of UVS?
I know this set-up is not as ¡¥state of the art¡¦ as others in this forum but it is a vast improvement on what was, (steam-driven) and is the best I can afford at this moment. I would sincerely appreciate any advice from the UVS wizards.
I have no other serious or professional use for the computer apart from the normal browsing and word processing.
Kindest regards
Kevin

Just letting you know how I have my PC configured.
I have two hard drives both IDE100. I have my operating system (Windows XP), swap file and application software on the PRIMARY drive and I capture my video to the SLAVE drive. I have no problems.
This tutorial may assist.
There are lots of other tutorials here
