VS 9 and DVD Xpress 2 Capture Issues

When I click on the capture button in Video Studio 9, nothing happens. The source and format areas by the duration area remain blank. The same thing happens when I click on the change capture plug in. The eventually after about 30 seconds. The error screen comes up saying Ulead must close. Then I get "Instruction at 0x73dd11c7"Referenced Memory at "0x00000004" cannot be read. I have read that if you have Cap Wiz, that you should use that to capture, but the video is jumpy or stutters regardless of the age of the tape or quality of video. VS9 was working fine until recently. No hardware has been added and VS 9 bundled with Cap Wiz has been re-installed. Thanks.
