hauppauge PVR 350 and DVD Movie Factory 4

Post by paulbe »

Just purchased DVD Movie Factory 4 downloaded and installed OK.
I have a hauppauge PVR 350 capture card on a Windows XP Professional P.C. SP 2. 1Gb RAM C: is 40Gb O/S & applications D: is 120Gb for Capturing Video.
Processor is Athlon XP 2100+
I have completely re-installed Windows XP and Service Pack 2, installed all the latest hauppauge software and then installed DVD MF 4.
When I try to capture using the hauppauge PVR card the following message is displayed

Failed to Connect to driver: Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture

[13011:3:3]

Anyone else had this message, reported to Ulead but no reply yet

paulbe,

I have had the same problems and had to revert back to Movefactory3 for Direct to Disc copying. I have e-mailed support (24 hours ago) and am still awaiting a reply.

Had the same EXACT problem with MF 3 -- took them over 2 months to patch the problem. The software works well and that's why I upgraded to MF 4, but you'd think they could have at least fixed the same problem from a previous version -- I'm really starting to lose confidence in ULEAD's ability to make a stable app --- I emailed last week right after I found the problem - still no response!! Anyone from ULEAD listening out there???

Hardware...

This happens with other hardware capture devices also.

I don't consider this a function of Ulead needing to "fix" the problem, I think it's more a function of the hardware capture device company providing updates so that newer software releases can still see their capture devices.

If the software comes bundled with hardware, then the only "guarantee" is that the bundled software version will work properly -- any subsequent releases of the software might require a driver update that the hardware company should provide (or on occasion, the software company will provide).

Thanks for all the replies

Ulead, please will you release a patch ASAP, I am singularly un-impressed that you did not check the same fault that was in DVD MF3, which I do not have but am told is very good. It is really up to you to check hardware works with your product or take a note from Microsoft and release a HCL before people purchase your product !

paulbe,

You are not the only one unimpressed. I expected that version 4.0 would work as well as version 3.5; however, I suspect that I jsut flushed my moeny down the toilet. They don't even respond. I guess, I'll just dispute and charge back the costs for their "failure to deliver".

You know you could alway use WinTV2000 and Import the clip in UDMF 4.0 or is it we just to LAZY?.

Now that's what I would call a "really dumb *** reply". I bought a particular product that should accomplish something and it doesn't. Then you come along and indicate that I am too LAZY to use something else to accomplish a "capture" that will by all means not be as good as the "integrated solution". If I wanted to use another product I would -- there are a number of freeware products that offer similiar things than the ULED offerings; however; I'd prefer to use a single product.

I guess that is not possible at the present time with ULEAD. Ergo, my comments.

Oh, by the way - I could also use Crayons and a bit of recycled paper to capture my images.

Are you an ULEAD engineer or customer service rep? If you are, then I can discount the lack of response from them.

Get Real, Bubba!!

G-Omaha it dosen't work that way and no I'm not ULEAD engineer nor a customer service rep in any way.
I said time before on SHSPVR Forum and on old ULEAD forum that ULEAD can't support every Hardware Base Encoder capture card out there that they sell OEM UDMF product to that Manufacturer like in the case with Hauppauge for WinTV-PVR that need custom plug-in for that OEM UDMF product.
I'm sorry G-Omaha but there is no freeware nor any other paid products that works out box as a single product "integrated solution" like you want.
I ask Hauppauge if there are any plan for Retail ver 4.0 plug-in for all WinTV-PVR.

As George said, I think you can contact Hauppauge and ask for updated driver.

Already have done that, as I indicated in my original post regarding the same subject - you know, the one that you replied to a couple of times.

G-Omaha,

It's generally a good idea to use the software that came with your capture card for capturing. Once your video is in a digital format on your hard drive, you can use other software for video editing and DVD authoring.

Real-time analog video capture is tricky business... The hardware and software must be designed to work together. The Hauppauge cards are quite unique. There are very few capture cards that have hardware MPEG encoders.

FYI- MPEG files are not meant to be edited. You can cut and splice them without problems, but any "real" editing (filters, transitions, crossfades) will cause video degradation as the file is decoded & re-coded. (And, I've experienced the dreaded "lip-sync" problem when editing MPEG files.)

I typically use three different programs for capturing, editing and authoring. Sometimes another program for audio editing, and three more programs for the packaging & labeling graphics!

Guess which software came with my capture card - Yep, you got it....ULEAD Movie Factory. I originally had version 2.0SE and then upgraded to version 3.0 and was generally satisified. I updated to version 4 and am not a happy camper at all.

I am not a novice at this sort of thing and capture/cut/edit/publish all of the time. The SONIC product, at the moment seems to be the better product.

Bottom line, ULEAD should support this or at least have the courtesy to resond and state that they do not support it and will not in the future and refund my purchase price for the version 4 upgrade. Not too much to ask as far as I am concerned.

G-Omaha you still going have wait for new Plug-in just like with ver 3.0
Just one problem with SONIC product it covert the audio.

Actually, the SONIC product works well for direct apture and writes. No audio or sync problems experienced. Now, it does not like HDTV audio for some reason.
