Video Studio 9 - 2 layer video

Post by jakewoodblues »

I am making a 30 second video to use as a dvd menu. I want to make a 2 layer video. The background is a jpeg and the foreground is an mpg file. This I know how to do. My problem is that the rectangular frame of the video is kinda jarring and I want to change its shape.

I found a feature called mask frame. My understanding is that this will do what I want, but I can't seem to make it work. I've clicked on the frame shape & I've tried dragging it over to the video frame...nothing.

Can anybody help solve this dilemna?

Thanks!

If you just want to change the shape of the video frame click on the Attribute tab and check the Distort Clip box. You can than drag the yellow trim handles to adjust the size, or the smaller green trim handles (just inside the yellow handles) to adjust the angle. You can also put the clip in the Overlay track and do the same thing (but you don't need to Distort the clip).

Then what does mask frame do?

Thanks again

Think of a mask frame as a window.
You cannot see through the frame but you can see through the glass.

The collectiion of mask frames are a variety of shapes with square ones, circular ones, star shapes and so on. The outer part of the mask is the solid frame (like a piece of wood) so you cannot 'see through it', the inner part of the mask is transparant (like the glass window) so you see what is on the other side of it - in this case your video.

To see how to use the overlay tracks and resize distort the frame as mentioned above by Black Lab please view this link:
