Audio capture problems

Post by Celesta »

I've just got videostudio 11 and I can play fine with audio and video via the instant VideoXpress but when I try to capture on VideoStudio 11, it won't capture the audio.

I am doing this via a very old Hi8 camcorder. It has both S-video and AVI outputs which I put through an ADS box into USB.

I have tried to go via a video recorder and I have the same problem!

I hope someone can help me resolve this as I want to make some DVD's for the family this Christmas ... plenty of time to sort it out!

I'm running this on Vista.

You say your camcorder has both s-video and AV outputs - but are you trying to use only s-video - s-video cables do not carry audio only video - you must have the audio RCA socket(s) on your camcorder connected as well - usually direct to the 'Line Input' socket on your PC soundcard. usually a 3mm (1/8th" for USA) round stereo socket next/near to earphone and microphone sockets

You may also want to see if this product will work for you. It takes the audio and video outputs from the camcorder and sends them via USB to your computer. Once connected, VideoStudio should havbe no problems recognizing and capturing. Here is the link. It's also available at Amazon.com - check there for a better description and pictures.

The instant VideoXpress is an Adstech device, and they use proprietary technology for which the software which comes with the device is specially tweaked. VS11 has not been tweaked to work properly with the device -- so you should be using the software which came with the device (normally CapWiz), and then import the captured video into VS11 for editing.

Hey thanks guys!

Firstly to BrianCee, I've been using every combination of S-video and AV cables, all and none which makes no difference.

To astrovideo, I am using that exact device which came with the old version 9 I bought and then stupidly realised that it didn't work with Vista so I upgraded!

And to Ken, being an OK PC user but really no more than that, how do I tweak VS11 to work with the adstech USB device? I didn't get a device with my VS11 - or do I need to get a CapWiz device???

Thanks again for your help with this!

I am afraid you cannot tweak VS11. It is Adstech, the company that makes the device which tweaks it according to a formula only they know. They are trying to protect the proprietary nature of their hardware. Companies like Ulead, which make Video Studio, are not let in on the secret.

Adstech has itself developed CapWiz as its own software to work with the device. So that is why I say you should use CapWiz...

I use the ADS Instant Video CD hardware devide with VideoStudio ver 7 SE and it works fine. I also have version 10, although I have not tried the ADS device with it.

Have you checked the Windows Control Panel for Sound RECORDING as per the link I gave earlier?

I have tried the recording settings - although slightly different for Vista, I managed to find my way through and change it ... no difference! Can I get a card with AV jacks to slot in directly to my pc? Would this solve the problem?

I have found two jacks at the back of the pc which are black and red digital ins. I have put the audio into them but still no luck! Would I have to change the settings or will these jacks not do the job as they're digital in anyway?

Thanks to all your help, I have been fiddling about with all the settings and have managed to plug one of the audio leads into a jack in the back of the pc and SUCCESS!!! Now I just have to find my way around VS11 to make something out of my videos!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

The only thing is, I am assuming that if I only have the white audio cable plugged in to the jack, then I will only get the left audio stream. Can I get stereo sound somehow?
