adding files

Post by heathers »

Can anyone suggest help, I have just purchased the movie factory 6 plus,to use with a newly purchased JVC GZ-HD7, I don't know much about video editing (yet). JVC use TOD files, I have renamed them to Mpeg, and now are trying to import them to start a new project, as soon as I click on add media', the program 'shuts down' and returns to the first page of the launcher (ie where you choose what you want to do)
I have unisntalled the program and also the JVC software incase there was a clash and re-installed it but still no luck
Are there any genius's out there who can please help me?

Obviously doesn't like you renaming your TOD files to MPG :? Did your camera come with a capture utility? I would use that to get the clips converted to mpeg.

Thanks for replying,
Even if I don't try to import the captured files, it wont even point to anything to import Uleads trial movie clips, I have seen someone else use it to import trial clips, but my computer wont do it., it keeps 'shutting off'.
The video is a Hard-drive video, so it comes with software to down load it to the computer, but the editing software it comes with is not very good, so I thought I would purchase Ulead, as a salesman recommended it, but can't seem to get it working, I can capture the movie using DV, but this is obviously slow, as importing files is really quick, and this defeats the purpose of buying a hardrive video
Thanks

I have found the folowing links

JVC GZ-HD7 Camcorder Review
The HD7¡¦s peculiar .TOD video file extensions do not allow you to simply drag and drop clips into an NLE like Adobe Premiere - to do that, you will need to convert files using the included software bundle.
JVC GZ-HD7
The file format used by this cam is called a .TOD file... yet another new one... can't keep up with the new formats! Not too much that I know of takes a TOD file. Some were saying that you can change the extension over to mpg and it works... I tried on a sample and it wouldn't get recognised for me.

TOD format, which is uneditable. However, included software converts it to ... TOD format will allow the video to be converted to future video formats. ...

This is a special case camcorder. Use the software that shipped with it.

It is intended for Blu-Ray authoring.

Thanks for the links,
I am familiar with the TOD files and use the included software to convert them into Mpeg movie files, this is OK,
but it is the software Ulead Movie factory 6 plus I am having problems with.
I can't add files (or import the mpeg files)
the instructions tell me to click on the 'add files' link and it then opens up a box where to select them from,
well the program doen't open up a 'select box' it just shuts itself down, are there any solutions to this?
Thanks for trying to help
