MF4 will not burn DVD

Post by DVD Dude »

MF4 generates an error message saying that the burner is busy on another task, which it isn't. Have tried rebooting PC, reinstalling software, etc. but same error message appears. Anybody know how to overcome this problem?

Any "packet-writing" software installed? The kind that lets you drag-and-drop to the DVD Burner like it was a hard drive?

No, I don't have anything on my PC like that.

I also have that problem. No reponse from Ulead for what must be 2 weeks now. Others say that Ulead's phone support is good, but their email support is woeful.

A work around is to elect to produce VIDEO folder on the burning screen. That will mean that DMF4 will produce a VIDEO_TS folder with VOB files before it decides that the burner is busy. You can then use another burning program (I use DVD Shrink (free) ) to burn the DVD.

John (jcc),

Per your comment: "A work around is to elect to produce VIDEO folder on the burning screen. That will mean that DMF4 will produce a VIDEO_TS folder with VOB files before it decides that the burner is busy. You can then use another burning program (I use DVD Shrink (free) ) to burn the DVD."

Please say more about how you do this. When I click on "Burning Options" I get a window with three items: "Label" (Preset to DVD-VR). "Disc name" and "Disk burner" (showing my DVD burner) - that's all, i.e. no option to produce a VIDEO folder. Note: At the bottom of the screen where the "Burning options " icon appears I also have the message "No sisc or disc error" (which is bogus, because Nero has no problem writing other files to the same DVD-R disc blank). Any suggestions?

FYI, below is a copy of what I have just sent to Ulead. Also, I notice there are several message threads addressing DMF4's bugs writing to DVDs and the lack of response from Ulead. Let's see if all of us with the same problem can gather in this discussion thread.

Thanks!
------------------

Dear Ulead,
With version 3/Trial I repeatedly succeeded in converting mpeg files into a DVD (VIDEO_TS). Once I purchased version 4 it worked great, but only ONCE! The second time a never-seen-before message (below) appeared. As a clue for you: Initially I used Settings to specify "Treat mpeg audio as non-compliant" in V4 (as done previosly in V3), but the second time I attempted to use V4 that option disappeared. Thereafter V4 goes no further because of "No disc or disc error". However, using Nero the same disc had no problem recording other files onto the DVD-R blank in my DVD writer.

PS, I uninstalled the trial version before installing V4, then uninstalled/reinstalled V4 and the problem persisted.

Please help me fix this easily. I've paid $100 bucks for your product (with far more features than I have use for) and I expect it to work!

Thanks

Message: “Empty playlist(s) will be temporarily removed in the Preview and Final page. It will also not be recorded back to the disc.” Whatever the heck that means!

Hi All, I posted this on another thread as well

I too have just purchased the full version of Movie Factory 4 after using their trial version of MF3 and thinking it was a great product to copy all my old VCR tapes to DVD. I bought it as a download and have not been able to use it for the same reason as stated on the other forums and thought I would check to see if anyone has found a resolution?? It captures the video fine but when it gets to the burning process the error message comes up "The burner is busy for another application" and then "drive is not ready" I did the same as everyone else in regard to un-install then re-install, reboot the computer as well as burn a disc in another program which worked fine. I also sent an email with no response to Ulead Tech Support. Is there anyone here who has actually got it to work properly?? When you pay top dollar you expect it to work!!

I am in Australia and we don't have a phone number to call so I guess I will have to call the USA. What has been said by the Techs when they have been called?? Have they offered a solution??

Rodrigt,

As on a number of other windows, there is a down arrow button on the right hand side of the burning screen which exposes additional options. Click that and another two options are displayed.

Create DVD Folders

Create disk image file

Check the Create DVD Folders checkbox and burn. You will get a VIDEO_TS folder containing the files to be burnt to DVD.

I was never able to burn directly to DVD using MF3.0 SE, it would always complained that there is no disk in burner and the Erase option is always grey out?

I always create a VIDEO_TS folder and using the copy feature of MF3 burn the DVD!

What is strange is that MF3.0 copy feature works properly with my DVD burner and the DVD brands that I am using, but can't burn directly?

It may be a compatibility issue between MF3.x, DVD burner and DVD brand combinations :?:

I hope this is helpful 8)

Troy,

I reported this problem to Ulead Tech support by phone on 17 March. They had no record of any such problem occurring. On the same date, I also sent them by email a detailed description of the problem. I used a form that they had emailed me after my phone call. I was told I would receive a response in a few days.

Needless to say, it is now over a week and I've not heard a word from Ulead. Not even an acknowledgment of my email and that they're working on it.

MF4 will not burn DVD

Post by lefty78312 »

I've had the exact same problem and was working around it by creating DVD folders; then burning with Nero. However, beginning this morning, when I try to create DVD folders, I get an error pop-up box with no message, and it refuses to create DVD folders. I may have to start using Ulead's proprietary iso image to burn my DVDs - until that stops working too.

MF4 seems to be an improvement over MF3, but it's apparently still in beta. They should have tested it more thoroughly before they released it.

It seems that a lot of people are having the same problems yet Ulead are not doing much to help..Great customer service!!

I know some are finding ways around the issues like copying to a DVD Folder but if you buy a product you want it to do what it is supposed to do. When I copy straight to DVD the picture is clear but the movement isn't quite right.

Hopefully someone will find a resolution to the "busy with another application" issue.

If enough people complain to Ulead then they'll have to do something about it.

Unacceptable.

I have the same "burner busy" problem with MF 4.0. I had problems with MF 3.0 as well. Ulead will probably eventually post a patch - hopefully it won't take too long. It's infuriating to buy a product that doesn't do one of the basic operations it should have been designed for. I really don't understand how Ulead could let it get out for sale like this.

I really looked forward to the new layout customization features in MF 4.0 and clearly jumped too soon.

So far, creating an iso image and then using the "Copy Disk" functon works. I didn't hit on that idea until I'd wasted a lot time trying to troubleshoot the problem.

MF4 Will Not Burn DVD

Post by lefty78312 »

MF4 is creating DVD folders for me today, so things seems to be (sort of) back to normal. I've been very frustrated with Ulead products ever since my first download about 3 weeks ago.

While I think that MF4 has some issues that need to be addressed, it is improved from MF3. Another thing I'd like to say is that Ulead tech support has been very good when I'm able to reach them, and many people on this board have also been helpful.

Hopefully the Ulead team will soon address the issues with a patch. If you've been using MF3, it's worth upgrading to MF4.

In the "README" file ulead tells you if having problems to create an
iso file then burn with the other module.

I was having a few things happening. I uninstalled and
reinstalled and selected custom. This time I left out the "Drag & Drop". That
is a packet writing driver like Nero's (I'm pretty sure).

A full install loads 3 more resident drivers.
Can't edit Dolby audio files. A one time conversion from pcm/mpg audio
to dolby works as the last step.

I had to finish a project today. Couldn't import a dvd-rw recorded in
-VR mode. That is the first time MF has failed me for importing -VR's.
I had to use Nero to import and author the dvd. Nero imported the DVD
with no problem at all.

The program seems to be more stable by leaving out the "Drag & Drop"
program.

There are many features in MF4 that would be really nice if they
all worked.

Thankyou for Beta-testing MF4.
