Spliting scenes with HV20
Just replace my mini DV JVC with the HV20, when I capture video the "Split by Scene" option is grayed out, is it not possible to split the mpg format during capture?

any thoughts on editing 3 hours of raw mpg into 1 hour, normally i would have captured by scene and shortened, deleted or split scenes until down to 1 hour, I started by capturing 3 tapes giving me 3, 1 hour clips, I then split by scene but the handles are so close togather they are hard to move in small amounts and if i try to split scenes it tells me i have to undo split by scene first.

The advantage that immediately springs to mind is the new multiple timelines option that enables you to view all of the timelines at once.jimo wrote:Are there any advantages to 11+ over 10+ with regards to editing mpg files?
In VS10+ you have to scroll up/down.

In addition you can make cuts on these overlay tracks.

Steve,
The program is probably HDVSplit, supposedly also works under Vista.

But the poster here never stated what version of VS he is using.
Split by scenes can have problems because of long GOP's. These files should be rendered out to PS format for more reliable editing.
If using VS10+ with the updates using those .m2t files no problem, VS10+ will convert them to PS..
If using VS11+ not sure you will read the correct fielding information. If using VS11+ it's best to capture within Vs11+ and to trim use the Multi-trim feature, then use the "Mpeg Optimizer" to create a new video of the trimmed file.
