Hi Black Lab,

I hear you. However, the rendering for the title only, I may be in the ballpark with Ken, but the overall project took in excess of 7 hours to render (for a 18 minute project  ). Ken renders a full hour's worth of DVD data with lots of titles etc at around 1hr 30 max.

In isolation, the 9 minute DV-2 file (from which a smaller cut was used in the project) took 4 mins 35 seconds to render to PAL DV (with the CPU idleing at aroun 18%).

I cut the DivX (still cannot confirm this, merely relying on the DivX logo that was added by DVDCopy to the file when I took it from the DVD) source file that was used also to a 9 minute lenght for a comparison. It took 9 minutes 40 seconds to render to PAL DV (with the CPU at around 55% - 65%).

It's those damn titles I tell you! Burn them!!!!!

So that says to me it's something else in your project that is causing the problem.
Ken renders a full hour's worth of DVD data with lots of titles etc at around 1hr 30 max.
Unless you are rendering the same project on your machine, comparing to what Ken's rendering times are is irrelevant.

EDIT: Now that I read your initial post something jumped out at me. Ten minutes of scrolling titles!? You mean scrolling across the screen, like at the end of a movie? Wow, that's a lot. Maybe that is the problem. Just for kicks, try turning of the scrolling (uncheck the Apply Animation box) and try rendering your project again.

I just benchmarked your vsp file. My system is a few years old now but serves me well. Details on my system button below.

2 minutes 20 seconds
at the time I had 63 running processes in my task manager with the web browser open and Microsoft Outlook in the background.

The title you have put together is a bit complex and so I was not a bit surprised at the render time (on my machine) which I thought was normal.

What I can suggest is that you can prepare everything ready for rendering and save the vsp file. You can then use your computer for other business.
When it comes to bedtime, open up your vsp file and let it rip overnight.

If you want to see how long some users spend on their projects see this post.
Newbie tale of 50th wedding anniversary video in 2 weeks.

I haven't created a log of how long I spend on a project but I recently returned from a 2 week cruise. I do not expect to have my holiday DVD completed for about 3 months. I could do it quicker of course but my wife wouldn't be very happy if we didn't get our daily game of golf on the Nintendo Wi.

Hi Black Lab,

No, it's not a continous 10 minutes of scrolling title like you would find at the end of a movie. The video is about (scuba) diver training, so it has a multiple of 20s titles that points certain points accross (with a few pieces of video in-between as needed), and these 20s titles mostly have "pop-up" style text - much like you would see in Powerpoint presentations.

From the sounds of it, my machine is performing on par - and that there may not be something really "wrong". The complexness of the titles is what's the problem. I have learnt a little lessen here as well (I think), in that in future if a similar sort-of-project comes about, I will do the text (no scrolling) in something like PhotoShop and take the bitmap image and put that in for 20s - should be a doddle to render. ;-)

Wow, what a relief. I thought you meant your video was 5 minutes long and your credits were 10 minutes long. BORING!!

I still say it's a problem with your mixed clip sources, especially the DivX.

As an example, this video doesn't have 10 minutes worth of titles, but it has quite a few plus extensive use of overlay tracks, chroma-keying, and slo-mo. It took less than an hour to render and burn the 14 minute project.
