Media Studio Pro 9?
Media Studio Pro 9?
Hi there. Just wondering if there is any news on a new version of Media Studio Pro coming out this year whether be it in upgrade packs or a new version 9.0?
Wouldn't it be funny if Corel suddenly announced April Fool; here's MSP version 9 with loads of new features and Vista compliant?!
Unfortunately it's not April and I don't think Corel have much of a sense of humour, so I fear you'll be disappointed if you're waiting for anything this year.

That appears to be the end of a great product."Many features and functionality of MediaStudio Pro and DVD Workshop are being rolled into the consumer products [DVD MovieFactory and VideoStudio], making them more powerful, but still easy to use," said Tobie Openshaw, a product manager at Corel. According to Openshaw, MediaStudio Pro and DVD Workshop would be discontinued in the near future, but did not give a date.

Jerry,
I know you are a journalist and this is not a knock at you but......
From my experience as a Police Officer who has attended various incidents and then read about them in the newspaper I had to ask myself several times if the incident I had previously attended was the same one being reported in the news.
You cannot believe everything that gets written. Things get twisted turned and buttered up.
I recall whilst at school we heard a story about a General in a war in the days before radio. They relied upon messengers on horseback.
he told the first messenger to pass on a message "Send reinforcements we are going to advance" The first messenger had to pass this onto to a second who would pass it onto a third etc.
At the other end of the line the message now read
"Send four and sixpence we're going to a dance."
Firstly I would be very surprised if anyone in a management position at any profit making company would boldly announce "We are discontinuing this product"
Instead they have two options.
1. Sit on their copyright so that at some time in the future they can resurrect the product in the light of the ever changing circumstances and state of the market.
2. Sell. They can offer the copyright to someone else - perhaps the highest bidder.
If Corel have decided to shelve (not discontinue) the products it is because they are making a loss. They have to take into account development costs against anticipated profit margins.
I for one will be taking that report with a pinch of salt.

Well, give us a hint if you have inside information suggesting the report is inaccurate.
